Answering That Question

I mentioned the other day that I am now 11 years into radio and now doing radio syndication. I’m growing slowly in affiliates. My radio live stream and podcast keep growing pretty rapidly. But a ton of you have asked if there is anything you can do. I started emailing back individually, but I figured I might as well put this all out here for you guys.

First, my show has a related podcast and we’ve started doing an “Extra Stack of Stuff” for all the stuff I couldn’t get to in the show. If you want it:

Growing our podcast actually helps when we deal with radio syndicators. Right now, I am self-syndicating my show with a small team. We do everything. Growing the podcast helps us overall.

Second, we have ad blocks in the radio program. If you have a business that wants to advertise reach out to us. I have an available live-read spot on the show that goes to all my stations including my largest market in Atlanta. Then we have three minutes per hour for pre-recorded ad spots that go to all markets except Atlanta. You can get more info here. Frankly, we’re always looking for advertisers as we grow nationwide. We are somewhat hindered because I am picky and dislike greatly being a pitchman for a product or service I don’t use or am not familiar with. But also, I think that gives me more credibility, it just takes more time.

Third, and most important, call your local talk station and just tell them you’d like them to carry the Erick Erickson Show. Local word of mouth is the most important thing to picking up affiliates. There are a lot of big radio companies in the United States. They have their own hosts on in the slot Rush once held that I hold now in some areas. But I can be run on delay and even on the weekend. Additionally, there are still hundreds of local independent stations that might want the show. But they need to know you guys want it. So consider calling your local talk station and asking them to take the Erick Erickson Show.
