First, today is the last day to get tickets for the Gathering at a discount as a paid subscriber to this newsletter. Some people ran into trouble and, while I must apologize for the inconvenience, it was kinda good trouble to have. The system makes me set a cap and you guys keep blowing through the cap. Paid subscribers, read down below and I’ll remind you want to do.
Second, I’m back on radio and work tomorrow. It has not been a restful vacation. I’ve been moving into an office. So, though not restful, it has been great to see real progress, etc.
Third, Congress will convene this week and in so convening, I must remind everyone again that here in 2023 there still is no good reason to put Kevin McCarthy in the Speaker’s chair. The response has been, “Who is the alternative?” Well, there are at least 218 better choices. Note that this number means I’m excluding people like George Santos and Marjorie Taylor Greene. From Jim Jordan to Steve Scalise to Jim Banks to Chip Roy to literally just about any other Republican, there are better options than McCarthy.
For those who say, “Well, they’re all supporting McCarthy,” I would respond by saying that’s for the first vote.
What I suspect will happen is that McCarthy will rely on Democrats to get the votes, which is actually appropriate and fitting. An opportunist with no principles relying on Democrats, not conservatives, to win the Speaker’s chair highlights McCarthy’s opportunism.
What should happen is that someone like Steve Scalise realizes he has a better shot at being a principled Speaker than the gentleman from California.
Lastly, it should not go unnoticed that former President Donald Trump, on New Year’s Day, launched a broadside attack on the pro-life movement, blaming pro-lifers for the disastrous GOP midterms. Instead of acknowledging voters relied on him and his endorsements for GOP candidates and those candidates turned out to be bad, he blasted the pro-life movement for spooking voters into voting Democrat.
Never mind that Governor DeWine of Ohio and the Ohio GOP did quite well after passing significant pro-life legislation. Never mind that Brian Kemp, who signed the first fetal heartbeat bill into law in the nation, cruised to re-election. Never mind that Texas Republicans did quite well after passing major pro-life legislation. Never mind all that. Never mind the data. Never mind that Dr. Oz, Blake Masters, and Herschel Walker were all Trump’s candidates and they lost.
Pro-lifers, the former President says you are to blame, not him.
Remember that.
Also, remember Donald Trump wants you to support Kevin McCarthy for Speaker.
Now, for paid subscribers who want to get a Gathering ticket for $75.00, today is the last day.
