Everyone who talks politics on TV and radio has embraced the artificial construct of “lanes” for candidates. Candidates fight for the foreign policy lane or the gubernatorial lane or the fiscal conservative lane or the moderate lane. Each candidate is presumed to have a lane. It gets rather annoying to talk about lanes, though, when, in reality, some candidates can invent their own lanes, carve out new paths, and open new doors.
