And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God. Genesis 6:6-9 (ESV)
Noah’s family got safe passage into a new world not because of anything they did. They were not found righteous in God’s eyes. Noah found favor in God’s eyes. Noah was a righteous man.
Society sometimes puts mom on a pedestal and forgets dad. Dad is the idiot in the commercials and the punchline of jokes. Dads are often viewed as dispensable by culture, but in the life of a child a father is indispensable.
Noah’s three sons, their wives, and Noah’s own wife were not found righteous by God. They did not walk with God per se, but they got the benefit of walking with God by Noah’s walk with God. They were spared the flood and taken into a new life because of Noah.
Fathers, walk with God. Be committed to your faith because it benefits your family. And we should all do a better job of remembering both parents are necessary, none are dispensable or disposable. Fathers really do matter in the physical and spiritual lives of their children.
Happy Father’s Day.
What a beautiful look at a Godly man. Thank you and Happy Father's day .
..."and spiritual lives". Yes. There's a belief that fathers only go to church because their wives make them. Perhaps more of a thing in some circles than others? But the idea that dads would rather watch TV than work on their own spirituality, or that of their families, persists.
I'm glad you wrote this, thus proving that it isn't true.
