If NYC has any problems, well, you break it, you bought it.

Watching the Dems squirm is priceless. For everything else, there's Mastercard.

Dems winning in deep-blue states is dog bites man.

It is interesting to note that in the polling of issues voters think are important, the vaulted health care issue touted by Democrats ranks far down the list. Nowhere close to the top.

Farming reality: Mother Pigs will eat their children if they feel threatened.

As I watch the government shutdown continue, frankly I feel like the mother pig Democratic Party is instead afraid of being consumed by her offspring. So instead of just rolling over on the piglets, she is madly trying to pretend that she actually loves the piglets she has spawned. Perhaps she would be better served by learning from real pigs...but that would mean she needs to be at least as smart as the pig. A far stretch I know.

Expecting the worst tonight but hoping for something better than all of the forecasts. We will soon know. Any bets on how low New York will need to fall before those who remain understand what it really means when the government owns everything and they own nothing?

Wise words.

But the madness that is occurring in NYC is both incomprehensible and profoundly dangerous.

Why cannot what professes to be "mainstream media" concede this?

VA resident who's been involved in NJ politics here. The real stories of this election—candidate and campaign quality—will be ignored. It is simply true that VA and NJ are blue states. Winsome Sears has proven not to be a very good candidate, even as Jason Miyares (the incumbent AG who will be reelected) has. Jack Ciatterelli is an outstanding candidate with a terrific message and with the best chance for an upset. Still, NJ is too blue, and the lack of any state media (there are no major newspapers or television stations in the state that people watch or read, or frankly, would want to. Republicans in both states are fighting history; the party out of power usually wins these off-year elections. Democrats will mostly win today, but it is a short-term gain for long-term pain—the elections in 2026 will matter much more. Republicans also have a major turnout problem with Trump never appearing on the ballot again.

I wonder if Cuomo now is regretting telling conservatives to leave the state. Many members of NYC's Orthodox and Chasidic Jewish communities have done just that, and moved down here to Florida. As a result, while 9% of America's Jewish population identifies as Orthodox, some 13% of Florida's Jewish population does. Cuomo might well have had those votes against Madman, if he hadn't chased them out of the state. I suspect, however, that if he loses, rather than taking responsibility for driving away voters, he'll blame Sliwa.

Wellllllll…….if it’s only about winning office, yeah, the Democrats will probably have a pretty good day. But if an open communist is elected mayor of New York City, then it’s actually the worst day in their history of their party as seen by anyone with a lick of sense. The lasting result will be what we’ve seen over the past 10 to 12 years: The blue states will get bluer and smaller, and the red state will get redder and bigger-as people vote their wallet with their feet. Just another brick in the wall.

Jason Klemm's avatar

voters in so-called blue cities and states do not deserve the fate that is happening to them.

Nathan Hughes's avatar

If I had three genie-wishes, one of them would be that everyone, on an individual basis, would get what they vote for. Impossible? Of course, that’s part of what makes it a really good wish.

If the Supreme Court does not rule Trump’s tariffs unconstitutional , a year from now I will remember every Republican who did not do their duty to oppose them. And not in a good way.

Jason Klemm's avatar

any court case is " a bar room fight with the lights knocked out". we do not know what the outcome is going to be

Southern Planter's avatar

We will find out if the Supreme Court still enforces the Constitution as written. If not, this republic is history. Truly the most important SCOTUS case ever.

Jason Klemm's avatar

I meant we can't predict the outcome beforehand

Southern Planter's avatar

If we cannot predict a constitutional no brainer like this one, then the Constitution is not worth the parchment it is written on.

David Thomas's avatar

Feeling a bit hyperbolic today, are we? I actually think the Court will rule against Trump on IEEPA, but as Bessent notes, there are other authorities such as the Trade Act of 1974 and the Tariff Act of 1930 that Trump could possibly use. In any case, only in the mind of SP would this qualify as “the most important SCOTUS case ever.”

Southern Planter's avatar

Actually, this case will decide if the president has extra-constitutional powers. It is, as Trump himself said, the most important case in the history of SCOTUS. If the court decides to maintain our constitutional republic, then Trump can pass taxes the old fashioned way - through congress.

Cuomo has to have a seat at the Table of Power. An unrepentant politician who is a power junkie. Unfortunately the power to curb the mayor rests with the City Council and they are also failed individuals. They will do the bidding of the special interests.

It will be fascinating to see Mamdani transition from campaigning to managing a bureaucracy the size of NYC. It will be like the dog who chases the car, and then catches it.

I truly hope the republican congress critters are listening to you this morning Erick.

Good morning, MAGAs! I realize that irony is completely lost on the Orange Jesus crowd, but does anyone at least find it entertaining that Erick titles his post "Get Ready for the Inevitable Spin" and then follows with 11 paragraphs of spin?

But Erick's irony - intentional or otherwise - isn't the focus of my comment today. Instead, let's focus on the following fragment from Erick's 11 paragraphs: "while I’d love the GOP to have a surprisingly strong election." The entire MAGA/GOP has ceased to perform it's constitutionally mandated functions and instead defers to the unconstitutional whims of Orange Jesus and his MAGA cronies, yet Erick still shills for this corrupt and clearly no longer conservative version of his Grand Old Party, which not only ignores the rule of law but is completely beholden to the deep pockets of its donors rather than the interests of working-class and lower-class Americans. My question is why?

Just finished voting in the Georgia special election today to keep power out of the hands of democrats. Tastes like a hot cup of Freedom. Anyway, I get you and others complaining about Trump and his 'excesses' but he is given a long leash by me and others. The reason is that for four very long years the democrats foisted upon us a weak and feeble president, tried to force vaccinations on everyone, that didn't work, btw, tried to cancel anyone that strayed from the 'science' the dnc proscribed (the Earth will end - always 12 years away) as well as cancel anyone that didn't toe the line on every LGBtq^2 whim the dnc could think of. And then you, and others get on here to nit-pick Trump about the rules of law democrats willfully and continually transgressed, never being called out by their media partners in a pincer movement to stop anyone asking questions. Republicans tried to play nice, but always worried about how the media would frame them. Trump came in and didn't care what they thought and the liberals are still melting down that their narrative containment bubble has/is collapsing. The liberals brought Trump upon themselves. I think I'm done tying to justify Trump to you and other dissenters. Y'all cared not a whit while our border was being overrun for four years - people are dead now that would have been alive had that not happened. Spare me rule-of-law complaints as no concern was noted for the four years the dnc was in charge.

I see that you're following the lead of your Orange Jesus: so many lies and conspiracies in one post, it's difficulty to know where to begin. You've learned well, young Jedi. You've learned well.

Didn’t need Trump to see these things, young padiwan. Just open eyes and ears. Four years I experienced. Saw it, lived it. People died because of liberal elite luxury beliefs.

True:

1) Virginia filled with many a federal worker and those who depend on them will probably go with the white woman over a black woman immigrant. If the parties were reversed it would be because of racism…. Allegedly the Dem is the face of moderates but has no problems with boys in girls sports or bathrooms. Interesting.

2) NJ will more than likely stick with a Dem (those folks in NJ are committed to the party).

3)In NYC they want to learn the hard way - wow what a bunch of dummies. I get Cuomo is a bad candidate, but Mamdani will be educational for America. I do find it fascinating no one in the progressive press has asked him about denouncing how his beloved Muslims treat the LGBTQ+ crowd and much less women’s rights.

4) In my City of Atlanta of Atlanta neighborhood they’re fired up to vote for the crazy progressives for PCS to lower the electricity costs they say and the Mamdani wannabe Rohit for President of ATL City Council. I’ll vote for Dems today - Overstreet for City Council President and Love for Mayor. Dickens is kind of an idiot, but 100x better than Bottoms.

You absolutely never hear how the Muslim countries treat gays. Let them have a drag queen show in downtown Kabul or in Gaza and see how the people react.

If 2024 taught us anything… heck if 2022 2020 2016….

Taught us anything. Is that polls are garbage. Complete and total garbage. Never accurate or even close to reality. Seltzer poll in Iowa?

A good rule of thumb is if the dem is only up 3-4 points. Chances are the republican is way ahead.
