President Biden will be picking his first Supreme Court justice in the coming months to replace Stephen Breyer. The good news is he can pick whoever he likes and they will likely pass the 50-50 Senate with Harris as the tiebreaker. The bad news is Democrats are deeply unpopular and the problem is getting worse.
Earlier today the DCCC announced they are expanding the number of Democrat-controlled House seats they are working to protect. The worst part is some of these seats are in districts that went for Biden by over 10 points. The question becomes will Biden go for broke by nominating a hyper-progressive pick and risk an even uglier backlash in November? Here’s my take:
I'd hate to be a Democrat Party strategist these days. 28 House Democrats are retiring and there's probably no way that they can hold on to the Senate. After November 7th, it's increasingly likely that President Biden will be formally admitted to the Lame Duck Club, and Congressional Democrats will be able to do is very little to prevent another disaster in 2024.
I agree that the radical Marxists, aka "progressives", have chosen this SCOTUS seat as their hill to die for (I wonder if Justice Breyer ever considered changing his mind just to spite the wokesters).
If the economy goes further south, as I suspect it will, and/or Ukraine becomes the foreign policy disaster I expect ir to be, with Europe deciding not to follow America's lead and the limits of our ability to supply Europe with natural gas made obvious due to the Bidenauts' green obsession, American influence in the world will fall to a low not seen since the end of the Vietnam misadventure. And in that case, the vacuum will not be filled by Russia, but rather by China, thus concentrating Americans' attention on Biden's Beijing-friendly policy. The Europeans are already moving away from the U.S.; Ukraine, France, Britain, Germany, and the EU are already trying to negotiate a resolution to the Ukranian situation onterms which certainly won't favor America.
The disaster is closer thasn it appears in the rearview mirror, Erick.
Real-politic at its finest! Excellent analysis!
