How Election Day Works
Today is election day and there is simply no relevant news until the third wave of exit polling hits late this afternoon. I will get no less than 100 texts or calls today asking for inside info that I, nor anyone else, can provide.
When I was a political consultant, my election day tradition was to drink morning beer in my backyard while laying in a hammock because there was nothing left to do but wait. We voted… and our voting spot was in the most beautiful place in the St. John’s river. #blessed
This morning as our family prayed around the breakfast table we reflected on God’s conversation with Habakkuk:
“Look among the nations and watch— Be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days Which you would not believe, though it were told you.”
We didn’t pray for a particular outcome in this election. Instead, we
1. THANKED God for the incredible blessings and privileges we have as citizens of a nation “under God,” founded for religious freedom.
2. THANKED God that He is supreme over all earthly leaders, that He IS working among the nations, and that He knows what He is doing.
3. Prayed that His will be done in this election to bring Him the most glory and further the gospel - and that our will would align with His.
4. Prayed that the church would reflect Christ, and the gospel would not be hindered by ugly attitudes and actions by Christians surrounding this election.
5. THANKED Him that our hope and confidence will be the same when we wake up tomorrow, no matter what the outcome… because our perspective is an eternal one.
Then, we put feet to our prayers and voted, prioritizing what we felt God’s Word prioritizes. Namely, the lives of babies and the preservation of the family.
We did our part. We trust Him with the rest.
Excellent description of the actual Presidential election process through the Electoral College. I have been explaining this to people off and on for many years. My only other comment is that there is no actual Popular Vote, it is an unofficial tabulation and means absolutely nothing with regard to the election of a President. I wish everyone would stop talking about it as if it was significant.
