I put up a tweet that has generated some controversy. The tweet read, “The devil cannot endure to be mocked. Neither can the wokes. Make of that what you will and let’s go Brandon.”
One person replied, “I know this is what your audience demands but I hope deep down you know that it's embarrassing.”
Tweeted another, "Actually God loves it when you curse your enemies.”
Another emailed, “Erick, brother, you’re better than this.”
I’m not joking though. I actually believe this. It is not me cursing my enemies to point out what is going on. “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”
The wokes, or as I call them, Woke-o Haram, are of the world. The world hates the things of God. The world is with the devil. The wokes, cancel culture, and this rise in graceless contempt for others is part of spiritual warfare and it is on the dark side of the fight.
Now, I know for the secularists of the age this is too much and I should be embarrassed for believing it. But I really do believe it. I really do believe this cancel culture effort we are seeing and the angry, hostile, humorlessness we see is part of a Satanic fight as this country moves away from God.
While most of you are nodding along with me, I should not I think it is affecting the right as well. We are seeing the rise of a post-Christian right that wants to just beat the left. It holds the left in contempt just as the left holds the right in contempt. It is bitter, humorless, and focused on fighting. It has as little grace as the wokes. It is filled with self-proclaimed Christians who neither darken the doorway of a church nor crack open a Bible and even a few regular church attendees who’ve become obsessed with winning a fight instead of letting Christ win for them.
Ironically, those who are pissed off at my tweet would most likely be fine with me saying that about the post-Christian right springing up within conservatism. It, like the left, puts political victory ahead of the cross. Both sides are playing the devil’s game. The devil cannot endure to be mocked. Neither can the people who think Jesus will save them from COVID, but have to take a cavalcade of pills to save them from heart disease, diabetes, asthma, and all the other ailments they have. The devil cannot endure to be mocked. Neither can the people who still believe the election was stolen by electronic voting machines.
The devil cannot endure to be mocked. Neither can the wokes.
The issue at hand, for today, is a bunch of woke progressives who spent five years saying “F— Trump” now trying to find and fire a Southwest Airlines pilot for saying, “Let’s Go Brandon.”
The left is beside itself that Let’s Go Brandon has taken off. They were fine with people wearing knitted pussy hats (sorry, not making that up) and burning down small businesses and constantly storming the streets against Trump. But they want to destroy anyone who says Let’s Go Brandon.
That is a worldliness that plays the devil’s game. Those of us who see the world in three dimensions should not shy away from pointing out this nation is in the midst of spiritual warfare playing out through both the left and right.
And I should note too that a lot of self-proclaimed Christians are going to side up with the post-Christian right and betray their faith before it is all over. But that doesn’t excuse the secular left and its gracelessness today.
The only major difference between Woke-o Haram and Islamic Jihadists is the former won’t kill you. They just want to destroy your life. Because a Southwest Airlines pilot allegedly said “Let’s Go Brandon” over the intercom of an airplane this weekend, he must be destroyed.
Legion, upon departing the drowned pigs in Mark 5, got bored and started social media. Now it storms about looking for souls to devour.
No, I was not joking. So don’t expect an apology.
"Legion, upon departing the drowned pigs in Mark 5, got bored and started social media. Now it storms about looking for souls to devour."
Perfect.
Assuming the Southwest pilot did say this, apparently he broke a policy of the private company for which he works about voicing his politics to passengers in such a public way. You have to admit, this was a pretty stupid thing to do. What did he think was going to happen? I'm with you that the Woke are wrong to try to get this person fired. He probably deserves disciplinary action, the extent of which only the employer can determine. The opinions of the Woke should have no bearing.
I've not voiced my religious opinions very often here out of respect for you and the vast majority of your subscribers. But I'm going to have to make a exception in this case. I was raised in the Roman Catholic Church. From what I learned in Catechism and my own study the devil (Satan) is a creation of God, a spiritual being created by God that revolted against God. Now, putting aside the fact that the Abrahamic God is omniscient and KNEW before he created these beings and the universe that this revolt against God was going to happen; why would a rational spiritual being (ostensibly in a state of heavenly grace) revolt against his creator, a creator he KNOWS fully? He's not mortal, his belief in God is not based on faith. I've read the answers to these questions that a Google search can provide. They boil down to Satan and his revolt were part of God's plan for our salvation. So, God created these imperfect beings, why?
That is the harder question. Why, in the Abrahamic tradition did God create, knowing the suffering and pain it would bring to many if not most of the beings He claims to love? Even Aquinas and Augustine had trouble with these questions from what I recall. You know what, He could have left well enough alone and not bother with creation. I've asked this question many times from lay persons and clergy. Like Aquinas and Augustine, they struggle for an answer.
So, I have to believe that there is a God for lack of a better name that created or set into motion all that we see, have seen and will see. I just can't buy into the Abrahamic version. It's cruel.
