Thank you for helping keep me sane. I agree with you on everything you write about Trump.

I can probably say that Trump's lack of impulse control might be the reason why a number of Republicans in the US House of Representatives not only decided to not seek re-election, but to leave Congress before their current terms end next January.

Whereas I would like to be applauding this article, I cannot because you have yet to fully come to grips with the obvious reality of the situation. "No impulse control" implies that Trump is an otherwise normal person who has an unfortunate quirk in his character. The actual problem is that though sharing many of the same beliefs that Republicans hold, he is UTTERLY WITHOUT CHARACTER.

Let me now say this to those sane enough to have had misgivings all along. Politics for Republicans - I read it in these comments all the time - now means being a Republican first and an American second, rather than the other way round. (Don't believe me? There were polls - even after his invasion of Ukraine - where Republicans rated Putin more favorably than our own President.) As a result, rather than accept four years under any Democrat, you have made an incessantly lying (this was your first clue), draft dodging, thoroughly self-interested, thin-skinned narcissist, adulterer, convicted felon and former best friend of Jeffrey Epstein the most powerful man on earth.

What could go wrong?

There is nothing that we could do with a Greenland that is ours that we cannot already do with it under our NATO alliance. As he looks mortality in the face, expanding our borders is all about burnishing his legacy in the history books for Trump. We and the rest of the world are now learning, the hard way: CHARACTER MATTERS!

have to respective disagree. You do not tick off a friend or those who voted for you about two years ago. Trump has to bully people when things do not go the way he wants to and does it publicly.

And Marco has remained silent on this matter...very wise. I pray he doesn't get sucked into the Greenland vortex.

Could not agree more. Thankful that this too shall pass and God will still be on His throne.

As usual - right on target. I hope we survive his presidency. Dickhead diplomacy for sure

Excellent opinion, Erick! I am in total agreement with you, as it seems the President, once again, has people advising him who wish to separate America from the rest of the world. The President has to stop "impulse writing/texting" to leaders of other countries. In these instances, he seems to be like a 5-year-old who can't get a toy he wants. Sad.

For anyone interested, this is a good article about the history of the US and its interest in Greenland. https://www.history.com/articles/greenland-united-states-seward-cold-war?cmpid=email-hist-inside-history-2026-0114-01142026&om_rid=

Interesting. I knew some of it, not all.

Good column Erick. I do believe, at this point, Trump is putting his own legacy dreams ( has to be the greatest ever) before the interests of the country. Perhaps he doesn’t realize that legacy may not look so good going down the path of time.

The frustration I felt just before the election has come back in full force. I feel there is no alternative between a president who has gone off the rails and the Democratic Party who went off the rails years ago. I've been a Conservative for over 40 years and the specter of Germany ca. 1932 continues to haunt me. The two extremes of political thought dominate and common sense has fled.

I am very thankful that God is in control.

God allows/works through mans follies. Eg 1932. As bad as Democrats are now, they are far less a present threat than Trump/Republicans

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree...

I wouldn’t be worried about Fed policy response should the economy struggle. They have the ability to act, but perhaps it’s to be with rates rising with foolish protectionist policies yet again. More concerning is gridlocked environment starting next year when real policy responses to “events” might be needed in foreign and domestic spheres.

Can we talk about the massive ice issue? That’s more concerning than international news and a childish president. We have a massive massive issue with ice and the basic lack of understanding of law enforcement and how to change laws etc in our country and it’s troubling. How do we educate people? How stupid are these people? And why does anyone still send their kid to public school?

No. Not near as important as Erick's chosen topic for the day.

Absolutely right. We can recover from mere matters of domestic policy, and even economic depression, far more easily than recovery from the next world war. For America to allow aggressor nations to do what they want while stepping back from any leadership role in world affairs is something we've done before . . . and it did not end well.

In 1996 we were treated to Bob Dole, "I'm Bob Dole" (like Jimmy Carter) was his entry into the campaign. He had a note on his calendar, 'start campaign tomorrow', he never got past, "I'm Bob Dole".

You keep saying, "If Trump's behavior persistent good luck in the mid-terms."

It might as well be October with early voting underway.

Elected Democrats can hide behind the proxy nut jobs like Don Lemon, the press will never shove a microphone in their face.

Elected Republicans just look like Bart Simpson saying 'it wasn't me' after everyone saw him do the deed.

I remember 1 year into Obama's terms and thinking, good grief 3 more years.

Anyone who has delt with an octogenarian parent is feeling the same angst with Trump. I am quickly loosing the argument that Kamala would have been worse. At least the Senate and House would be Republican.

Clarence Thomas, please don't be RBG, 2029-36 may very well be Democrat administrations.
