I personally think a woman who serially committed adultery on her husband, leading to a divorce, should probably shut the hell up about a national divorce. The woman not really committed to her husband and kids is, surprisingly, not really committed to her nation — just her own self-aggrandizement. We should not pay attention to the opinions of a serial adultress, but we are forced to because of who she is.
Majorie Taylor Greene is from the wing of the GOP that got its ass kicked in the 2022 election, wherein voters decided they’d rather stick with the party of woke than the party of crazy.
Greene then wrapped herself around Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who now can get tied to her call for a great national divorce. Her tweet comes on the same day the New York Times reveals President Biden intends to make campaigns against crazy Republicans a centerpiece of his 2024 election campaign because it worked so well in 2022. Voters still show a level of angst about what they might be getting with the GOP.
The problem with Marjorie Taylor Greene and, thereby, the problem for the GOP is that Greene does not want to be a legislator. She wants to be on the national stage. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez understood she needed the power that comes with a majority to advance her ideological agenda. Greene’s agenda is all about promoting herself and fundraising. She does not need the majority for that. She can still raise money in the minority and get attention.
Meanwhile, she makes it harder for the GOP to get its message across without constantly having to respond to her nonsense. That drags the GOP down, takes it off its message, and reinforces that the serially unfaithful idiots like Greene are dominant forces in the GOP regardless of the reality.
Little Eric Swalwell might have possibly, though everyone denies it, done the bang bang with Fang Fang, but Marjorie actually banged multiple gym bros and now wants the nation to join her in getting a divorce.
Hard pass on this.
I’d also note that Greene lives in a state that rejected Donald Trump in 2020 and Donald Trump’s preferred candidates in 2022 at the statewide level. On which side of the divide would Marjorie want her own state? Perhaps if the people so willing to break up the country to get what they want instead try to build bridges, they might find the nation is not as ready to give up on them as they are to give up on the nation.
And to the Republic
Unrelated to the “national divorce” nonsense, an outside group has set up a national super PAC to support DeSantis 2024. It is called “And to the Republic.”
I’m actually surprised no one has named a super PAC that before. It’s a great name. It is also, unintentionally, a great rejoinder to the talk of a national divorce. After all, the lines from the Pledge of Allegiance precede “for which it states, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
With America -- and particularly the hopelessly blue states -- in deep moral decline, Erick may one day grab at the original intent of the founders, which accepted secession based on the belief that the Constitution did not have a compulsive power over each of (or a group of) the sovereign states. It was then generally accepted that the people of the states in convention could either interpose their sovereignty to arrest the acts of the general government or withdraw from the Union.
Jefferson, who in 1798 authored the Kentucky Resolution, made clear in his Northwest Ordinance of 1787 that new states would enter the Union on “equal footing” with the existing states, having the same rights and immunities as the original 13, including the right of interposition and WITHDRAWAL. We might soon prize the legal ability of Red States to escape the moral sewer being progressively dug for us by the Marxist Left.
MTG is an embarrassment to the GOP. How in the world did the people of her district elect her?
