I think the outcomes President Trump and his administration want from places like European nations, Canada, Mexico, etc. are good. I agree with them.
I also don’t know that needless antagonism is a good way to accomplish what we want.
Indecision and wavering on tariffs breed uncertainty in the markets. Companies need to be able to plan. Going back and forth may be a fun game to discombobulate others in negotiations, but it risks disrupting the economy and provoking a recession by forcing businesses and individuals to make decisions they otherwise need not make. They will make their decisions because of the uncertainty Trump’s wavering on tariffs fosters.
I think if Ukraine stops fighting, Ukraine ceases to exist, and if Russia stops fighting, the war ends. Our nation may be tired of funding the war, but trying to claim immorality and crookedness on Ukraine’s part and justifying Russia’s invasion to get out of Ukraine financing is immoral. If we don’t want to pay anymore, say so. To wrap it in a moral rationale that is a lie is bad.
The needless antagonism of Canada risks helping the progressive left in Canada.
The firing and rehiring of employees who should not have been fired in the federal government looks amateurish.
I love so much of what I’m getting from this administration policy-wise, but don’t be surprised if there is a voter backlash if we do get a recession.
Voters were promised a secure border and a better economy. They are getting the former, but they might not be getting the latter. There are growing fears of a recession.
If Donald Trump is defined by DOGE and a culture warrior mentality at the expense of good economic stewardship, the GOP will have hell to pay. Voters will feel betrayed. They tossed Biden for his poor economic stewardship, and they were promised Trump would deliver. Instead, voters might get isolationism, a divide with allies, and a recession. They will not look kindly on Republicans.
The Trump team must remember the economy matters. Voters will not appreciate a reset that crashes people’s economic opportunities.
Lastly, I continue to be appalled by the people on the right embracing the Tate brothers. If you see someone on the right justifying, defending, or apologizing for the Tate brothers, you have found a moral cretin and you should be weary of that person.
The Tate Brothers, who have been openly about their abuse of women and pornographic trafficking, really should be a litmus test for the right. Those who find them acceptable should be unacceptable.
Character is still going to matter.
Erick, I can’t agree more. Trump is imposing a style of negotiation that is very disruptive to the markets and will likely push us into a recession. Like you, I am concerned. He’s smart enough to fulfill his campaign promises on secure borders and affordable cost of living.
First I would like to admit that there is so much going on right now that I am having trouble wrapping my head around all of it. I will not pretend to understand the tariff thing. I leave that up to the economists and hopefully it will have a good outcome.
I love what DOGE is doing and I’m appalled at the waste and the lack of accountability for my money. It needs to stop.
What’s happening in Syria and South Africa is despicable. After 2000 years and Christian’s are still being persecuted. Zelenskyy needs come to the peace table and stop listening to the EU. The European governments should quit cowtowing to the woke agenda.
All of Hamas sympathizers need to be sent to Gaza.
The democrats are an embarrassment. I can’t imagine why anyone would vote for them.
Finally I wish Trump would take a breath. I’m grateful for what he is doing but he has 4 years to accomplish what he set out to do.
I’m done now. Just some thoughts from a geezer. Have a great day.
