I wrote yesterday that character matters. I take this as your argument that no, it doesn't: that matters of mere policy are more important than making sure that the most powerful man on the planet wouldn't blow up perhaps the most successful and important military alliance in history just because he's miffed over not winning some stupid medal.

Perhaps what is driving our difference in perspective is our tolerance for risk. As for mine, I have always been guided by the maxim that one should never take a chance on a catastrophic result. In the area of foreign policy - where true catastrophes tend to happen - you contrast Trump going nuts over Greenland against Biden's mishandling of our withdrawal from Afghanistan. I've always said that you're a powerful writer and I take my hat off to the technique of your argument. However, listing every single name of the soldiers lost during the Afghanistan operation does not elevate it from unfortunate to catastrophic, which is what the consequences of blowing up NATO could be. Should we end up in a war with Russia that could otherwise have been averted because of NATO, the names of the dead could be way too numerous to list.

Very thankful for your perspective. We have to keep our sanity as conservatives and call out crazy wherever it lives! Keep the faith Erick!

Right there with you Erick when you criticize Trump…. He certainly is far from perfect, just like me. But Trump was the best option available, and he has done many things right. Keep providing honest assessments…. And keep the faith!

Erick points out that elections are binary, consequences are real, and criticism of Trump doesn’t require surrender to the opposition. One can oppose Donald Trump’s excesses while still recognizing that, against the actual alternative, his presidency better defends the courts, religious liberty, border enforcement, public order, and the most basic truths about law, sex, and sovereignty.

We all held our noses when we voted, but hallelujah, we did not have to vote for some silly candidate like Haley or Harris. Trump’s an embarrassing personality and not one we’re accustomed to at the helm as President. We often cringe at his bluntness. But unbecoming as a President? Let’s consider Bill Clinton declaring to the nation if he wore boxers or briefs! Most of us do not understand a “CEO” personality. I certainly don’t, but my experience is they are often unliked. The President is getting much done in a short period of time -quite an achievement in this day of governance. Nevertheless, he absolutely should choose to think before he opens his mouth.

Hear! Hear!

I don't mind a bit putting a Democrat in their place for their nonsensical, emotional comments. My bigger frustration is those who insist I can never criticize Trump.

But, here's the thing. When it comes down to it, for all of his faults.... And, for all the times he does something stupid (wholesale tariffs on every country on earth, threatening military action to steal Greenland)..... When it comes down to it, I think Trump wants what he thinks is best for this country and I'd rather have him fighting for what he thinks is best than to have either Biden or Harris or Newsome or any of the other whackadoos in their fighting for their vision.

Well. . . this post certainly puts things into persecutive. I voted for Trump. What was the alternative? Although in the primaries, I did vote for Nikki Haley.

Yes, when you wrote, "Trump may be a deeply flawed person. . ." I need to remember that I am as well. If I forget that reality, then I am in danger of self-righteousness. Still, my concern is that Trump doesn't respect the limitations of our constitutional system. There has been very little legislation. Trump has signed fewer pieces of legislation than any president preceding him. I find that concerning.

Erick, your response to that one subscriber's comment was so perfect and priceless there's nothing I can add to it other than; Amen! The irony of this whole thing is that some many of the problems we are dealing with internally / domestically right now are the direct result of the Leftist Policies, specifically that of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Barack Obama gets some blame here too but for anyone to look at the situation holistically and not see what's actually going on here is extraordinarily concerning, downright scary and totally hypocritical!

Excellent Commentary. I think of many churches that members are packing and this

Stupidity by the protestors could have ended differently.

People are literally looking for death created by Democrats.

Yep. I am attending a very conservative church right now and know for a fact about 1/3 of the parishioners are carrying including myself.

Erick, I really am impressed with your wisdom. You are conservative and Christian, which I like, but you are not afraid to criticize Trump when he is clearly wrong. I, too, voted for him. I am very glad that Kamala is not president. But, that that doesn’t mean we have to like or agree with everything Trump does!
