Summer is not technically over, but it is over. Labor Day has passed. Everything matters more daily on the campaign trail because everyone is paying attention now in ways they were not before.
In the most recent polling, conducted by Donald Trump’s pollster for the Wall Street Journal, a poll conducted with both an online sample and a phone sample (🤷♂️), found Trump dominating the GOP field right now. The same poll shows DeSantis beating Biden and Biden beating Trump. If we take the primary numbers as real, we should also be willing to take the general election numbers as real.
But many people had checked out for the summer.
This race feels stuck. It feels like Trump is going to win. But the money, the number of candidates, the number of indictments, and the fickleness of voters suggest otherwise. Every day now matters.
If I could give a word of advice to the candidates, talk about the issues Republican voters care about. Right now, those are the border and the economy. Both give openings to attack the front-runner for his record in office, but both really give you a chance to connect to voters on issues that matter.
The front runner intends to relitigate 2020 and scream about indictments. He is running low on money. If you want to win, do not try to be his doppelganger. Set yourself apart on your record, your issues, and your agenda.
The press and Democrats are trying to keep a spotlight on Donald Trump. They all know that Trump feeds off the attention, and being at the forefront of people’s minds on the right helps him. They want him to be the nominee because the polling, as mentioned above, shows him losing to Biden. Other Republicans win.
Labor Day is now in the past. The voters are starting to pay attention. Engage or get out of the race.
I am 100% for DeSantis. And that is who I will vote for in the primary. I do not understand why the GOP cuts their own throat by allowing dozen people to compete for the nomination when we see time after time that it does not work to their advantage. If they let it go this way, Trump will probably get the nomination. And just like they didn't let him win in 2020, they will not let him win in 2024. Now unlike some, if Trump is the nominee, I will vote for him, because I will never vote for a democrat as the party is now. Nor will I pretend that not voting is taking a moral stand. This country is in trouble. And hiding our heads and thinking there will always be a next time is just plain crazy.
I can’t say enough about Governor DeSantis. God , family, country, character, leadership, I don’t know what else you could ask for. If Trump wins the nomination we will lose. Most people do not care how bad Biden is they just hate Trump more. Even if Trump would win the election which he will not, do you want 4 years of absolute chaos or 8 years of recovery?
