The media believes Joe Biden, in his State of the Union address, baited Republicans into talking about social security. He certainly loudly accused some Republicans of wanting to gut social security. That is true of only a small number. But the larger issue, coordinated with progressive members of the press, was to take conversations about entitles off the table completely. Republicans should, in fact, take the bait and have the conversation.
Vice President Pence, on CNBC’s Squawk Box last week, engaged exactly where the conversation needs to go, and the GOP can win on this with Pence’s framing. The Democrats’ plan is insolvency. The GOP’s plan is better.
