Welcome! The Federal Reserve is set to hike interest rates again, putting the country into a recession. It’s their best hope of stopping inflation, and it is going to summon doom for Democrats at the ballot box. (Yahoo Finance) Note, too, that before the announcement, markets have gone up, having taken their anxiety out earlier this week.
Relatedly, the Senate GOP has unveiled its closing argument to win back the Senate.
Editorial Note: In this morning’s piece I wondered why only Fox is covering the border issue. I’m reliably informed that News Nation also has a crew at the border covering the issue. Speaking of which, I’ll be on News Nation tomorrow night at 7pm with Leland Vittert.
HEADLINE STORY: Seriously, the Fed news is the biggest story out there today. We have other stuff to focus on today, but you need to understand this one. FedEx is not the only company expecting a recession. (CNN) Existing home sales have fallen too. (CNBC). The mortgage industry has begun layoffs too. (Axios)
ALSO BIG: President Biden addresses the United Nations with a forceful denunciation of Russia trying to wipe Ukraine off the map. He’s calling on the world to take action.
FOUR YEARS LATER: What a difference four years make. Four years ago, polls had Brian Kemp up three points and he won by 1.4%. This year, after four years of Trump attacking Kemp and Abrams believing her own press? Kemp leads the polling average right now by 6.6% and most Republicans and Democrats privately expect him to exceed his polling average at the ballot box. He’s getting at least a third of black men voting for him. (RCP)
JOHN FETTERMAN WANTS TO FREE 1,200 INMATES CONVICTED OF MURDER:
MUST SEE TV: The White House Press Secretary throws Joe Biden under the bus. Claims the President said COVID is over because he was distracted looking at all the cars.
Also, come on — if you haven’t seen it, you have to see it. Just watch and enjoy. From yesterday:

Vladimir Putin mobilizes army reserves to support Ukraine invasion
Literally, the trending Google search in Russia overnight was how to break an arm. This is not a good sign for Russia or for Ukraine. It shows Putin is getting desperate and could escalate this fight.
Moscow did not give an official figure for the newly mobilised troops but it is estimated they will significantly bolster the number of Russian forces on the ground in Ukraine, which western officials have in the past estimated to stand at between 150,000 and 190,000.
Coming After Biden’s address on extremist GOP, a man killed a Republican teen
If the roles were reversed and a Republican had murdered a Democrat teen a week after a Republican President warned about extremists in the Democratic Party, this would be the only story in the news. The media would pre-empt coverage of Queen Elizabeth’s funeral to cover this story.
Now? The national press has largely passed on the story. They’ve done what they always do. They mentioned it for fifteen seconds and moved on, daring you to say they didn’t talk about it.
Court documents say at 2:35 Sunday morning, 41-year-old Shannon Brandt called 911 to report that he had hit a pedestrian because he was threatening him. Brandt told State Radio that the pedestrian was part of a Republican extremist group and that he was afraid they were “coming to get him.” The pedestrian has been identified in a GoFundMe page as 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson.
DeSantis keeps White House, Delaware and media guessing on migrant flight plans
DeSantis did it again. He got the entirety of the Democrats and press talking about another flight up north of migrants. They all thought the migrants were headed to Delaware. Instead, an empty plane landed in New Jersey. They all got punked.
The White House and the Delaware governor’s office were ready. So were the news media and political onlookers. Everyone who gathered Tuesday at a small airport in Georgetown, Delaware, near President Joe Biden’s home, was waiting in anticipation of a planeload of migrants to be flown from San Antonio as part of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' program to send a message about illegal immigration. But by late Tuesday, no plane had arrived. Instead, it landed in Teterboro, New Jersey, just outside New York City, where Biden was in town for the annual U.N. General Assembly meeting. No migrants were aboard the plane.
Losing the Hispanic vote. Democrats have a real problem on their hands.
The New York Times tried to extrapolate the views of the entire Hispanic community based on a survey of 522 Hispanic voters. They missed a lot. But the trendlines still are not encouraging for Democrats.
Hispanic voters have moved to the right over the past several years. As a group, they still prefer Democrats, but the margin has narrowed significantly. In 2020, Joe Biden won the group by only 26 percentage points. And in this year’s midterms, the Democratic lead is nearly identical to Biden’s 2020 margin…
Are we a Christian nation?
I’m going to devote some time on the show today and probably push out the monologue later on this topic. Most Republicans would declare the United States a Christian nation. The reality is that we’re a post Christian nation and we’ve got to be really careful about this one. As some Christians claim to embrace “Christian nationalism,” often as something other than a traditional understanding of the phrase, the Democrats are getting worked into a frenzy. But Republicans must be really careful about making the nation an idol.

The thing I like about the audience is that they are sane people. You can post something and not get called out. Everyone has an opinion that should have been formed by carefully examining events. We all have different lenses to view the world. I don’t agree with Erick on things because I don’t have his complete knowledge of the topic and we probably use different lenses.
