I would think that it takes more than 10 months to turn the economy around. I'm retired and things are tight. We live in an "instant" society that wants everything NOW.
Gas prices near me are $259.99 a gallon which is a considerable drop & very helpful to the budget.
The Dems & media are all attempting to discredit the progress made. Looking for more in the coming year.
Trump knows if he raised the dead the media headline would be "Trump thinks he's Jesus." So he's going to play them for the next three years. Meanwhile, JDV played the VF article like a boss. I'm sold. I'm calling him "48" from now on.
The media has ignored progress and focused on Epstein, MTG, and other Beltway horse manure. I don't blame him for doing a bait and switch. Well-played. But you can only do it once.
I was left confused about who the speech was aimed at. If it was his loyal base, perhaps they came away heartened that things are, on the whole, going well and that maybe the tax refunds in the spring will offset some of the pain over rising prices. But for an independent like me, the speech was unenlightening, an unstructured laundry list of perceived accomplishments, with no overarching theme that would help us understand his overall goals for the US over the next 12 months.
At 58, I grew up in an era when the President scheduled a speech at 9pm eastern, it was going to be substantive. Some of them were great, some like Carter's speech on energy did not go over well. But it was important.
I was driving home after an evening with some old work friends, and I flipped on his speech. I lasted all of 60 seconds. Talk about it "could have been an email" moment. The truly sad thing is that the next time he does this, no one will listen. Political capital is real. Changing sentiment is hard, and yelling at us to get off the lawn does not work.
Blaming the last President when you have been in office now close to a year rings hollow. You have the House and the Senate; you have all the keys to make changes. Tariffs have affected all of us negatively, and the supposed golden age is nowhere in sight.
What keys, it is the same Congress give or take a few that Biden had, still worse than herding cats and a media still against him, that he has managed anything good when he is his own enemy sometimes is remarkable. I hope he can still accomplish more and tariff's get sorted out as usual the devil is in the multitude of details with them and Trump is a big concept guy and the detail folks either not being heard or in over their head. DC has broken for far too long for a quick fix.
Let me stipulate at the outset , no rational American should want a restoration of Democratic governance, at any level, but that is not equivalent to endorsing this second Trump Presidency.
In respect of "tariffs" in the broadest sense and Ukraine, in the braodest sense, It was abject failure. Their actions and policy will be historically villified as a denial of economiic ratonality and the values of Western democracy.
Worst of all is his abandoment of Ukriaine.
When do you come to terms that Trump is now an utterly dangerous failure?
When do Congressional Repbulicans abandon him?
It is not enough to acknowledge he is preferable to the alternative. America and the world need a real conservative alternative to his madness.
I can't believe I rushed home from dinner (7:00 here in AZ) only to hear Trump yelling at me in a speech accurately characterized by Tom Llamas as "full of accomplishments: some real, some perceived"; after about 3 minutes I had enough and started to do housework
Great inflation report this morning. Where’s the tariff impact? Seriously, Dems, RINOs and Never Trump with egg on their face this morning. See below. I expect the egg face thing to continue to happen. As old Joe might say “come on, man”…
The impact is with American import companies like mine who will finish this year in the red because of tariffs -- because we had to eat most of the tariffs to stay competitive. 25% of our workforce laid off, so far. Hopefully the Supreme Court will reimburse us for the money Trump stole with his tariff tax.
Well, when your brand is European and people buy it because of its renown "European craftsmanship," onshoring is not just "not easy." The tariffs have now pushed our level of quality beyond the reach of many of our customers, despite that we have "eaten" a good portion of them. Enough to result in a 20% sales decline over 2024, back when "our economy was dead under Biden."
Sorry about your Co but companies fail, contract over time always winners & losers over GOV interference. Many can't even get jobs in their fields now with mega companies buying up smaller and replacing which AI or robots. Getting businesses back here in end a good thing, No change is without pain and this will work out one way or another. At least he was aiming to improve things unlike some other GOV interference.
I absolutely hated the yelling. So unnecessary! It is time he stopped saying we were dead a year ago! Every time he gets to mic he says it over and over. He has done a good job and needs to pay more attention to the economy and less to
Criticizing everybody who dares to disagree with him. Please mo
More about the stolen 2020 election. I'm afraid he is handing the mid terms to the Democrats. If so,the only thing that will get done is one or two more impeachments.
Media (including E) constantly reporting negative stuff! While Cost may be slightly up. I feel more secure? If Biden group had gotten their way, we will be in “Lock Down” immigration would be another 100 million getting benefits?
Erick, in my opinion what last nights (horrible) speech represented was an administration frustrated that they are loosing the support of the American people. There is no question that Trump looks at his favorability numbers as validation (it's what feeds him), and they are in the low 30's currently and that must be killing him. His narcissism will never allow him to change course on things, and people are simply growing tired of him and his ways. So what does the White House do, call for a Prime Time beat down of people and try to force them into believing what their eyes do not see, and their wallets do not support.
Erick, you have seen Donald Trump give great speeches? Which ones??? The ones about how immigrants are destroying our way of life and only he can save us? The ones about how Joe Biden and the radical left are destroying our way of life and only he can save us? The ones about how wokeness is destroying our way of life and only he can save us? The ones about how trade imbalances are destroying our way of life and only he can save us? One of the other rambling ones about how all of the problems in the world are caused by everybody but him and only he can save us?
Just curious. Please enlighten me.
Or, perhaps you're referring to the one in which he repeated the following phrase multiple times to demonstrate both his stability and his genius: "person, man, woman, camera, tv." Admittedly, that one was great.
The speech did little to convey empathy, with certainly an acknowledgment that prices increased dramatically by over 21% during recent years and are now why costs are high and are making lives difficult for many Americans. He could have then explained, briefly, what his Administration is doing to reduce costs and, rightfully, say prices of fuel and food are beginning to decline. Simply say about tariffs…level the playing field, increase manufacturing in the United States, and provide more jobs or else see more jobs going to other countries.
STOP playing defense and stop whining. Start playing offense.
You inherited a mess…and are working to right the ship.
Tariffs already existed….he changed our’s to counterbalance their high tariffs on U.S. goods imported into their country…not to mention, like Canada, taxes that are imposed at point of sale on imported goods.
We need to regain manufacturing throughout the economy, especially in medicines, heavy equipment, shipbuilding and defense industries, chips and list goes on.
If folks don’t like tariffs, which the President repeatedly said during the campaign would cause price increases in some goods, then there is a simple solution: buy American.

Oops $2.59
Gas where you live costs $259.99per gallon..... do you live on the Moon??
Newsome is jealous! LOL

Because that is what he is approaching.
When has Congress actually done anything but grow govt and tax us to death!
There is no one else but Congressional Republicans.

I see Andrew Sullivan quoted your entire post in his latest Substack 👍🏽

My business was experiencing the same until the decision was made to onshore production. Not easy, but done.

Sorry to hear about that. What’s the product?
Products for outdoor sport. That’s as specific as I care to be here.

You are as clueless as Trump, but you both might be weasels.

Good Morning People only seen part of it but we all knew it would be just more of the same old BS God Bless America have a Great Day
I was underwhelmed.
"Underwhelmed" might be a bit too generous.

If only any of the things you suggest Trump say about tariffs were true, especially when levied on our European and North American allies.

Thanks for your comment.
You know that protectionism goes hand in hand with socialism, right?
Oh, and Trump’s tariffs did not “counter-balance.” Look it up.
