Well, okay, not really the devil, just the devil in the details went down to Georgia. Biden and Harris will be in the Peach state today and everything about it is utterly incompetent and shows just how bad off things are for the Democratic Party.
First of all, they decided to show up the day after the University of Georgia was in the National College Football Championship and UGA won last night. No one is going to remember what happens today other than the hangover and celebration. In full disclosure, I’d have gotten this out a couple of hours earlier but was on my front porch till 2 a.m. with friends. It was mourning for my Tennessee fan friend who was rooting for injuries last night. The rest of us were having a good time.
They’re coming down here today. They’re going to tie up traffic as everybody is getting back from Indianapolis, and they won’t have their star with them. This is the really telling and damning part.
Stacey Abrams is a no-show. She’s got her haircut scheduled and given staffing issues and cancelations, she can’t get out of her appointment. Actually, we don’t really know why, but it does not matter. Despite all the insistent excuse-making from Democrats, when the President of the United States and his Vice President show up in your state to talk about your signature, core issue and you can’t alter your schedule to be there and they didn’t check the schedule to accommodate you, that’s a pretty big tell that even Abrams knows Biden is radioactive.
If you missed the news, Stacey Abrams has already declared she’s running for Governor of Georgia in 2022. The Democrats have cleared the field for her. Her core issues are and have always been voting and civil rights. Here come Tweetle-Dee and Tweetle-Dumb and Abrams doesn't want to be on stage with them.
UPDATE: Even progressive activists are refusing to be on stage, claiming it is all for show. The head of a voting rights group announced the fight was in Washington, not Georgia, and they should stay there.
That is a terribly telling sign of the times. The President and Vice President are going to campaign in downtown Atlanta with Raphael Warnock, the newest member of the Senate who is up for re-election. Warnock has made voting rights his signature issue in the Senate at a time most Georgians actually are fine with the voting laws Georgia passed. Warnock is to the left of even black voters in Georgia on the issue. They support photo ID. He does not.
Warnock is vulnerable. He is polling below fifty percent. He’s running again on an issue no one truly cares about outside the progressive base. And he’s going to tie himself to a President and Vice President with whom the Democrats’ most popular Democrat refuses to be on the stage.
Even worse than all of that, they are going to expend this enormous energy and all this money to tout a key initiative with a freshman senator on a lost cause. The filibuster is going nowhere. Manchin and Sinema will not change it. So they know they’re coming into a fight they’ve already lost and even Stacey Abrams knows to steer clear.
I’ve never seen a presidential-level campaign spend so much political capital on a fight they lost before they even started fighting.
I don’t understand how they got this bad at politics. When does Ron Klain get fired? This really is some amateur-level incompetence. I half expect them to congratulate Nick Saban on his victory today.
And as i am watching WSB at noon, i see that the POTUS and his VP are coming in their own respective planes …. Can they not even fly down here together ??
