Applause. FEMA should not exist. There should be zero expectation of aid from the Federal government. Every single person should be prepared to continue to function during an emergency situation, with the caveat that in cases like this, even being prepared isn't enough, which is where everyone who was not catastrophically affected should step up and help in whatever way they can. I wish I could physically be there, but since I cannot, I send money. To organizations that are actually on the ground giving aid. Instead of sending tax money to the feds to create more incompetent government agencies, each state should set up their own entity to help the people of their own state.

Having lived in southern Louisiana and experiencing the FEMA response after Katrina, Rita, Gustav, I have learned that FEMA is only good for blowing large amounts of our tax dollars. Expect FEMA to be slow to react but come in with an open checkbook and start doling out money to every shady organization that seeks to profit off of the post storm clean up and reconstruction efforts. Never trust FEMA for emergency relief. That should be the job of the states/ national guard.
