Sexual Preferences
On Monday, to use the phrase “sexual preference” was completely acceptable. As recently as last month, multiple gay rights publications used the phrase. Leon Panetta had used the phrase in the past couple of years. Joe Biden has used the phrase this year.
Merriam-Webster considered “sexual preference” to be just another version of “sexual orientation.” But then Tuesday happened.
On Tuesday, the village idiot from Hawaii masquerading as a senator, Mazie Hirono, attacked Amy Coney-Barrett for using “sexual preference” instead of “sexual orientation.”
By Tuesday evening, the employees of Merriam-Webster has changed the phrase in their online dictionary to note it was offensive. No, I am not making that up. The dictionary company literally changed it after the Amy Coney Barrett exchange with Hirono.
Gay rights publications like the Advocate went on the attack as well. In just 23 days, “sexual preference” went from acceptable to a hate crime.
The left, incapable of winning the debate on existing ground, has chosen to redefine words and phrases to make common phrasing verboten. This is Orwellian.
Hunter Biden and Twitter
But it is not just the left on this story. Consider also the New York Post’s Hunter Biden story. Facebook allowed leftwing fact-checkers to cast aspersions on the story and downgrade the story on their platform. But Twitter banned mention of it altogether.
One of the most widely distributed newspapers in America has a major scoop about Joe Biden and his son and Twitter not only blocked access to the story but locked accounts trying to share the story and blocked people from even sharing links to the story.
Twitter was fine with the McClatchy story about Michael Cohen going to Prague even after Bob Mueller specifically said the story was not true. Twitter was fine with Buzzfeed sharing the Steele dossier and rumors about the “pee tape.”
But Twitter would not let a legitimate story from a legitimate publication about Biden be circulated because the material was obtained through alleged “hacking.” It actually was not hacking. Whoever dropped off Hunter Biden’s laptop for repair never bothered to pick it up. It became the property of the store owner.
Even if hacking were the case, Twitter has let loose multiple stories damaging to the President based on hacking and other information, including the New York Times obtaining President Trump’s tax records.
The American left and their tech comrades are trying to win by suppressing information they do not like and twisting language to suit their ends. They have dragged us into Orwell’s nightmare vision.
Progressives feel emboldened by what they see as a Biden win shaping up. They are revealing their own authoritarian nature with a heavy streak of totalitarianism where dissent is not permitted and the use of language they deem hateful is not allowed.
Oregon
Consider Portland, OR. The national press has stopped covering the riots at night. But they are still happening. Just yesterday, local businesses publicly began pleading for the riots to stop. The American media moved on from the story the moment it appeared to be impacting Joe Biden.
Tech giants, mainstream media outlets, and Democrats unable to win fairly have chosen to ignore stories that could damage Biden, block conservatives from sharing those stories, and even alter the dictionary to advance their cause.
These are dangerous games they are playing and it will end badly for everyone if it continues.
The handwriting of Orwell's 1984 has been on the wall for a long time. But like the frog slowly being boiled alive, many people have been able to see the consequences. A 2018 article "The Great Lesson of California in America’s New Civil War" ( https://medium.com/s/state-of-the-future/the-great-lesson-of-california-in-americas-new-civil-war-e52e2861f30 ) described the left's dream of turning all of America into CA, where progressive policies rule in uncontested fashion. Today's political world is a bit like the saying: "“When it comes time to hang the capitalists, they will sell us the rope," with the remaining Never-Trump contingent supporting a political party whose policies are the polar opposite of conservatism. The progressives are charging up the virtual equivalent of Gettysburg's Cemetery Hill in a do-or-die effort, not unlike Pickett's charge. The only question is whether there are enough people in America who wish to stop them by standing and fighting instead of surrendering. As the Medium article suggests, "One side must win." The only question is which side it will be.
It is a sad, upside country we live in. God Bless the USA.
