10 More House Races Turn Red
The Cook Political Report is shifting 10 additional House races in favor of Republicans saying the GOP’s “House advantage looks as robust as ever.” The current prediction is that Republicans will net 20-35 seats this fall. Here’s more:
Given that President Biden's job approval is underwater in dozens of districts he carried in 2020, any Democrat sitting in a single-digit Biden seat (or a Trump seat) is at severe risk and even a few in seats Biden carried by 10 to 15 points could lose — particularly in "orphan" states without competitive statewide races driving turnout. For many Democrats, going "scorched earth" against still-undefined GOP nominees looks like the only path to survival.
Poor Economic Signs
Poor domestic and international economic news continues to lead the headlines. Here are the stories you need to know:
Gross Domestic Product shrunk faster than projected in Q1 of 2022. The economy shrunk by 1.5%, the worst quarter seen since the height of the pandemic.
New home sales dropped by the largest percentage seen since 2013 in April of this year. The contraction is a result of the economy shrinking and rates rising.
Apple is keeping production of iPhones flat as the company fights supply chain issues, inflation, and a shrinking global economy.
Recession predictions continue to mount with Sequoia Capital saying “the good times are over.”
The U.S. will be in a recession within the year according to noted hedge fund manager Kyle Bass.
Hunter Biden, Data Thief
According to the Washington Examiner, Hunter Biden stole personal information from family members between 2017 and 2018. The data primarily belonged to the widow of Hunter’s deceased brother. The data included photos, text messages, notes, call logs, calendar information, and over 120 voicemails. Go deeper here.
