Bud Light Blowback
The CEO of Anheuser-Busch downplayed the brand’s connection with trans-activist Dylan Mulvaney on an earnings call with investors. Michael Doukeris blamed the national Bud Light boycott on misinformation flowing around social media stating, “We need to clarify the facts that this was one camp, one influencer, one post and not a campaign."
Why this matters: Anheuser-Busch has lost an estimated $5 billion in market value as bars and restaurants continue to report sagging sales of Bud Light. Meanwhile, Coors Light, Miller Lite, and others have reported booming sales numbers.
My take: This is an American backlash, not a conservative backlash against Bud Light. It’s a significant difference I explained in my morning piece here.
Democrats Rebuke Biden
Nine Senate Democrats joined Republicans in passing a bill that would reinstate tariffs on solar panels from Asia that Joe Biden paused when he took office. Biden adamantly stated the bill would be vetoed when it reached his desk.
Why this matters: While the semantics of an obscure political fight over solar panel tariffs are not particularly interesting, it is quite noteworthy that nine Democrats were willing to vote against their party’s leader when they knew the bill would be vetoed. Go deeper with Bloomberg (paywall).
Shocking Mortgage Data
The average monthly mortgage payment is up 50% from last year according to shocking new data from Zillow. Mortgage rates have doubled in the past year as the Federal Reserve implemented 10 consecutive rate hikes, skyrocketing interest rates to 17-year highs.
Here’s the average mortgage payment on a home purchased today:
Monthly mortgage with 5% down payment on a 30-year note: $2,237
Monthly mortgage with 20% down payment on a 30-year note: $1,702
Save The Male Chickens!
Vox News has a lengthy article lamenting the deaths of millions of male chickens every year as a senseless act of violence. Hatcheries kill the majority of male chickens as they are unable to produce eggs and don’t grow as fast as meat-specific breeds.
The irony: The Vox kids claim chickens can feel pain and should not be killed while at the same time being totally fine with the scientifically proven pain embryos feel during an abortion.
