Passing The House
Joe Biden and Kevin McCarthy notched signature wins last night as the bipartisan debt ceiling bill passed the House of Representatives during a late-night session. 149 of the 150 Republicans McCarthy promised supported the bill while 165 Democrats voted yes.
After passing the house by 314-117, the bill heads to the Senate where smooth sailing is expected ahead of a critical funding deadline. Schumer and McConnell signaled a surprisingly united front claiming this deal must be wrapped up by the end of the week or default would be imminent.
Noteworthy: It’s hard to overstate Washington’s surprise that Kevin McCarthy - a man who took 15 votes to become House Speaker and has no discernable political ideology - convinced two-thirds of a politically diverse majority to vote for one of the most controversial bills of the year.

2024
The number of Republican entrees into the race for 2024 is growing quickly. Chris Christie is planning on making a formal announcement on Tuesday while Mike Pence and the Governor of North Dakota (you wouldn’t know him) are planning to formally announce their candidacies on Wednesday of next week. This will bring the field to a total of 11 with more candidates expected.
Biden: Democrats continue to face a crisis in their own primary as fringe candidates like Robert F Kennedy Jr consistently polls around 20% and Marianne Williamson is closing in on 10%. Plus, will Biden even be on the ballot in New Hampshire?

Millennials Are Moving To The Right
Nate Cohn at The New York Times (paywall) has a shocking piece claiming the same young millennials that propelled Barack Obama to office in 2008 are decidedly moving to the right. Roughly half of the millennials who backed Obama in 2008 supported Biden in 2020. Here’s the paragraph that matters:
This shift toward the right among the young voters who propelled Mr. Obama to victory 15 years ago is part of a larger pattern: Over the last decade, almost every cohort of voters under 50 has shifted toward the right, based on an analysis of thousands of survey interviews archived at the Roper Center.

Market snapshot:
McCarthy needs to be removed. What a horrible deal. No debt limit cap for 2 years? No dis tenable meaningful spending cuts? He caved. Controlled opposition. He needs to go along with the 149 that voted for this. The lack of economic understanding is astounding!
For a moment, I thought “Ross Perot is still around?”
