Clip of the day:
Don Lemon
Don Lemon is on pre-planned paid leave today after making bizarre claims about Nikki Haley’s age on CNN’s New Day program yesterday morning. Lemon claimed Haley is “past her prime” and told viewers to “just Google it!”
The non-apology: Following blowback from both female cohosts and basically everyone else, Lemon tweeted an odd apology that did not mention Nikki Haley by name.
Haley response: Nikki Haley responded to Lemon’s apology by saying “To be clear, I am NOT calling for competency tests for Sexist middle-aged CNN anchors; only for people who make our laws and are 75+.”
Blowback: Politico says female CNN employees are privately furious at Lemon claiming it is the latest in a series of sexist slips from the new morning host. Co-host Poppy Harlow stormed off set following the segment.
Lemon problems: Back in December, Lemon “blew up” at co-host Kaitlan Collins in a staff meeting with a private source telling the NY Post, “at this point, Kaitlan wants to be on set with Don as little as possible.”
Earlier this month Lemon took heat for calling off a commercial break to critique Kaitlan Collins’ interview with a House Republican. Megyn Kelly had the best take:
Book Banning
Remember all of the flack that Ron DeSantis took for allegedly banning certain books from public schools? The data is in and DeSantis was right. We now know that 87% of the books were pornographic, violent, or deeply inappropriate according to new data released from The Daily Signal. Here’s the paragraph that matters with the end slightly altered in case you don’t want to see it.
This week, DeSantis officials took to Twitter to highlight some of the more horrifying books found in Florida schools. This includes the books “Let’s Talk About it,” “It’s Perfectly Normal,” and “Gender Queer,” which includes the “shockingly obscene comics” depicted here (warning).
Fox News vs Dominion
The top personalities at Fox News were privately skeptical of Donald Trump’s 2020 election fraud claims according to texts and emails released in a protracted legal battle with Dominion Voting Systems. The 192-page filing was heavily redacted with seemingly more evidence forthcoming. The New York Times (paywall) has the original story.
Big picture: Dominion is demanding $1.6 billion from Fox over defamation claims relating to the role their voting machines played in the 2020 election.
