The One Republican Beating Biden
A new CNN poll released this morning echos previous polls that suggest Biden is deeply unpopular, voters are worried about his age, and the President is statistically tied with Donald Trump. The surprising news is that Biden is tied with every other GOP candidate with one notable exception: Joe Biden is behind Nikki Haley.
Momentum: The CNN poll is the latest in a long line of positive headlines for Nikki Haley following a strong first debate performance. Her Iowa small-dollar fundraising jumped 1,000%, she raised $1 million in 72 hours after the debate, and her crowd sizes in early states are growing.
Biden: The most concerning data point in the CNN poll for the White House is that a record-low 28% of Americans say Joe Biden inspires confidence. Here’s more:
39% is Biden’s job approval rating.
26% say Biden has the stamina and sharpness to serve effectively.
67% of Democrats say the party should nominate someone else.
Bad to worse: If this wasn’t bad enough for Joe Biden, CNN also reports in a separate poll that a majority of Americans believe Joe Biden was involved in Hunter Biden’s business dealings.
Harris: Meanwhile, the White House is doing damage control after Kamala Harris told CBS that she’s ready to become commander-in-chief "if necessary."
Migrant Crisis
As sanctuary cities and states continue to be overwhelmed with high volumes of illegal immigrants, New York City Mayor Eric Adams said yesterday the situation is so bad, that he doesn’t see a way out.
“Never in my life did I have a problem I didn’t see an ending to. I don’t see an ending to this. This issue will destroy New York City.”
Context: New York City has accepted 107,000 migrants over the past two years and is projected to spend $12 billion on the crisis before 2025. New York Governor Kathy Hochul has been in a public spat with the Biden administration over the matter publically blaming Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The first two paragraphs of this Wall Street Journal story explain it best:
The idea of circular firing squads in politics is usually associated with House Republicans. But we may never have seen anything like the circle of mutual Democratic destruction taking place in New York among Mayor Eric Adams, Gov. Kathy Hochul and the party’s nominal leader, President Joe Biden.
The issue is illegal migrants and the so far unanswerable question is where to put the more than 107,000 who have poured into the city the past two years. With migrants, New York is no longer a sanctuary city. It’s a Democratic battleground.
