Clip of the day:
Even Democrats Want Biden Gone
New polling data from The New York Times reveals Joe Biden has the lowest level of support among the previous four presidents.
64% of Dems want Biden gone.
33% job approval rating.
13% of voters say the nation is on the right track.
Two-thirds of independents disapprove of Biden.
94% of Dems under 30 want Biden gone.
Despite the devastating numbers, no Democrat is stepping forward to challenge Biden.
A challenge requires a challenger -- and all the Democrats being discussed as potential primary opponents to President Joe Biden tell CNN they're ruling out runs and warning others to follow suit.
Russia Turns The Gas Off
Russia has “temporarily” shut off the flow of natural gas to Germany as the energy crisis deepens in Europe. Work on the Nord Stream 1 pipeline is scheduled to last 10 days. Still, the top German energy regulator said “we cannot rule out the possibility that gas transport will not be resumed afterwards for political reasons.”
Eruope’s precarious energy situation has individual countries striking deals for natural gas rights with African countries. The punchline is back in November at the UN, these same European countries were lecturing Africa to reduce its reliance on natural gas and other fossil fuels to fight climate change. Here’s the quote from Bloomberg:
While African leaders are eager for the millions in revenue that the gas deals are likely to bring in, they're also calling out the sudden interest in their resources as a double standard that perpetuates the West’s exploitation of the region. They question why Africa must move away from dirty fuels — thereby delaying access for hundreds of millions of people to electricity — even as its gas is used to keep the lights on in Europe. Rich countries have been reluctant to fund pipelines and power plants that would facilitate the use of gas in Africa because of its emissions, yet haven’t delivered on promises to help finance green projects that could be an alternative source of energy.
House GOP marches into deeper blue terrain as Dem prospects fade
This is from Politico:
With just four months until the midterms, Democrats were already on the defensive in at least 30 highly competitive districts. But Biden’s toxicity has given the GOP optimism about seriously contesting a fresh crop of about a dozen seats that the president won in 2020 by 9 points or more — from western Rhode Island to California’s Central Valley to the suburbs of Arizona’s capital.
The result is a House map that has expanded to an uncomfortable place for Democrats. Survey data obtained by POLITICO shows the president underwater by double-digit margins in 11 districts he carried.
Chaos in China
This is from CNN:
Chinese authorities on Sunday violently dispersed a peaceful protest by hundreds of depositors, who sought in vain to demand their life savings back from banks that have run into a deepening cash crisis.
Since April, four rural banks in China's central Henan province have frozen millions of dollars worth of deposits, threatening the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of customers in an economy already battered by draconian Covid lockdowns.
