Fair Fight Fail
Stacey Abrams’ Fair Fight Action paid a boutique law firm owned and operated by a close friend of Abrams $9.4 million in 2019 and 2020. The group refused to disclose how much they received from Fair Fight Action in 2021 and 2022.
How close? Allegra Lawrence-Hardy served as Abrams’ campaign chair in her 2018 bid and her reelection bid current run against Brian Kemp.
Why does this matter? Politico explains:
But some outside the group questioned both the level of expenditures devoted to a single, largely unsuccessful legal action and the fact that such a large payout went to the firm of Abrams’ close friend and campaign chair. Those concerns were heightened by the fact that Abrams’ national campaign against voter suppression galvanized the Democratic Party, many of whose top donors helped fill its coffers.
The unsuccessful legal action was Fair Fight Action v. Raffensperger where a judge ruled against Fair Fight Action on three separate counts last month.
Not the first time: Fair Fight Action first came under scrutiny 10 days ago when Fox News reported its director Andre Fields was funneling PAC money to his friends and family who had no political experience.
🚨 Red Wave Alert 🚨
Dave Wasserman and Amy Walters at The Cooke Political Report just moved DCCC Chair Sean Patrick Maloney’s seat to a toss-up. This is huge. Not only is Maloney one of the most influential Dems in congress, but the district is also a New York City suburb that went for Biden by +10 in 2020.
Josh Kraushaar’s parallel report at Axios claims it is increasingly likely Republicans take back control of congress with more than 20 seats thanks to voters’ continued concerns regarding inflation and crime. Kraushaar notes that Democrats pulled money from a Biden +9 seat in Oregon to defend a Biden +13 seat outside of Portland.
Things look wavey.
Terrorist At The Border
Go read this from CNS:
“The U.S. Border Patrol encountered 98 foreign nationals on the terrorist watchlist who were crossing the U.S.-Mexico border between the ports of entry in fiscal 2022, according to newly released data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. That was up from 15 in fiscal 2021.”
