The Trump Indictment
The 49-page federal indictment against Donald Trump was made possible by notes subpoenaed from his lawyer. Trump lawyer Evan Corcoran recorded audio on his iPhone and later transcribed it onto paper paving the way for Special Council Jack Smith to build a substantial case against the former president.
What about attorney-client privilege? According to The New York Times, Smith was able to bypass the standard attorney-client privileges by invoking the crime-fraud exception. Essentially, Smith convinced a judge that Trump was using his lawyers to further a crime.
Why this matters: Referenced as Trump Attorney 1, the notes from Corcoran were more comprehensive and more detailed than previously thought. Corcoran allegedly detailed Trump’s suggestion that he should lie to the grand jury and withhold releasing further documents.
Additionally, prosecutors subpoenaed a wide array of people in Trump's orbit that included everyone from low-level staffers to advisors in his inner circle. The evidence is so damning that Trump AG Bill Barr said, “he’s not a victim here. He was totally wrong that he had the right to have those documents. Those documents are among the most sensitive secrets the country has.”
More: A former top Trump official in the Justice Department said: “The first thing that struck me was confidence. They’re sending a message with the amount of details that they put in the indictment.”
Tomorrow: Donald Trump will appear in a Miami courtroom tomorrow.
Democrats Have A MAJOR Problem
Three polls from mainstream outlets spell doom and gloom for Democrats on multiple fronts.
ABC: Joe Biden earned a jarring approval rating of just 31%, as voters progressively give him lower and lower marks. While under multiple investigations, Donald Trump earned a 31% approval rating as well.
CBS: 75% of independents and 42% of Democrats say Joe Biden should not run again for President according to a new poll from CBS.
Gallup: 69% of Americans believe trans athletes should only compete on teams that match their birth gender.
Propping Up Kamala Harris
In one of the strangest news items of the day, EMILY’s List announced a $10 million investment into propping up Kamala Harris as Vice President during the 2024 election. The group’s decision is politically unprecedented and confirms the VP’s political problems.
Reminder: Kamala Harris is so unpopular in Democratic circles that her team gave The New York Times a list of prominent Democrats and political activists who would speak favorably of her for an upcoming piece. Not a single person had a nice thing to say.
Woke Toronto Blue Jays
The Toronto Blue Jays cut a pitcher before pride night who made posts on social media in support of the national boycotts surrounding Target and Bud Light. The team claimed the decision to part ways was mostly due to performance but admitted there were nonperformance factors involved.
Meanwhile, the Blue Jays promoted the MLB’s first nonbinary player from its minor league ranks to starting catcher. The team’s general manager said, “The Blue Jays organization is delighted to make baseball history and be at the forefront of LGBTQ2S+ progress. Now every day can be Pride Day at the ballpark.”
However, the move is set to displace the team’s current popular catcher who has a higher batting average than the nonbinary guy did in the minors. Yikes.
