Hurricane Milton
Millions of people along the western coast of Florida are bracing for the devastating impact of Hurricane Milton tonight and early tomorrow morning.
Details: The historically powerful hurricane eclipsed 185 MPH winds with meteorologists claiming it has nearly reached the physical limits of how large a storm can get in the Gulf of Mexico. Milton surged to a category five storm from a tropical depression in less than 24 hours and still has one of the lowest (strongest) inner eye wall pressures in recorded history.
Context: Milton’s speed, size, direction, and intensity have complicated evacuation efforts in Southwest Florida with low-lying cities south of Tampa Bay facing up to 15 feet of storm surge. GasBuddy reports that 47% of gas stations in the Tampa area are without gas as pictures of bumper-to-bumper interstates are ubiquitous across Central Florida.
Watch: A Flood barrier has been put around Tampa General Hospital to protect the patients who could not evacuate. - X
Watch: 50,000 linemen are staged around Florida to repair damage as quickly as possible. - X
NR: The Long Road to Freedom for Jack Phillips
Few living Americans have stood longer against government persecution for their freedoms than Colorado baker Jack Phillips. He has been repeatedly targeted under Colorado anti-discrimination law for adhering to his Christian faith. At long last, his third legal saga is over after the Colorado supreme court on Tuesday rejected the latest lawsuit against him on procedural grounds. After twelve years, Phillips is free of the courts. We can only hope he stays free — and that his fellow citizens will, too.
The end of the current round of persecution of Phillips is cause for celebration but not for unbridled joy. This is America. It is a scandal that any of the lawsuits against Phillips were brought, and it is a scandal that the courts have not rejected them squarely on the merits, in terms that made plain that this must not happen here again.

WSJ: Violent ‘Megalomaniac’ Sinwar Takes Hamas on Even More Radical Path
After Yahya Sinwar, the man responsible for launching the Oct. 7 attacks on Israel, took full control of Hamas over the summer, Arab intelligence officials say he sent a directive to a senior operative: Now is the time to revive suicide bombings.
A few days later, a bespectacled Palestinian entered Tel Aviv with a blue backpack loaded with explosives. Although the bomb exploded before the man reached his target, killing only him, the attack sent an unmistakable message.
“What a blessing it is that my bones become shrapnel that blow apart the usurping Zionist Jews,” said the attacker, Ja’far Sa’d Saeed Muna, a member of Hamas’s armed wing, in a video released later by the group.
The U.S.-designated terrorist organization has long embraced militancy, but Hamas largely discontinued suicide attacks two decades ago. At the time, a spate of them had spread terror in Israel’s streets but failed to extract concessions from its government, and some Hamas leaders feared such attacks would make the group a political pariah.
