Democrats Go Dark
Despite unmitigated attacks from Republicans on inflation and the economy, Democrats have pivoted their midterm messaging away from their list of limited accomplishments and to Donald Trump and abortion rights. According to Politico, Democrats have spent $18 million airing 100+ pro-abortion tv ads across the country.
The Washington Post summarizes the Democrats’ message this way: “If Republicans take power, they will establish a dystopia that cripples democracy and eviscerates abortion rights and other freedoms.”
More from The Washington Post:
“For months leading Democrats, starting with President Biden, signaled that they would campaign on having helped Americans, from fixing bridges to cutting drug costs. Biden suggested that attacking Republicans too harshly would divide the country and alienate potential supporters.
But with Trump’s reemergence, the proliferation of Republican nominees who reject fair elections, and the Supreme Court’s overturning abortion rights, the calculus has starkly changed. Biden now all but admits his initial approach no longer works.”
Ukraine Advances
Ukraine made major strides in retaking one of the four eastern regions Russia annexed last week.
Why it matters: While none of the four newly annexed regions are entirely under Russian control, Kherson was the only regional capital that Russia captured since February. Ukraine is aiming to gain as much ground as possible before Russia’s new reservists are trained and ready for battle. Thankfuly, they may have a while.
Response: Russia responded to Ukraine’s advancement by bombing a Ukrainian medical center for children with special needs. Horrible.

Three Senate Races To Watch
Republicans are gaining steam in three pivotal senate races.
NEVADA: Adam Laxalt has gained a 5.7% lead over Dem Sen. Catherine Cortez Mastro in polling conducted between August and September.
WISCONSIN: GOP Sen. Ron Johnson is leading his Democrat challenger Mandela Barnes in the latest batch of polls released.
PENNSYLVANIA: John Fetterman’s commanding lead over Dr. Oz for the open Senate seat in Pennsylvania has all but dissipated as questions linger about Fetterman’s health.
Dude is not ok.
Greenland Ice Sheet Recovers as Scientists Say Earlier Loss was Due to Natural Warming Not CO2 Emissions
From Daily Skeptic:
A popular scare story running in the media is that the Greenland ice sheet is about to slip its moorings under ferocious and unprecedented Arctic heat and arrive in the reader’s front room any day now (I exaggerate, but not much). Meanwhile back in the scientific world, scientists are scrambling to understand what natural causes lie behind the sudden slow-down in Greenland’s summer warming and ice loss dating back to 2010. The recovery of Arctic summer sea ice has been spectacular of late, with the U.S.-based National Snow and Ice Data Center reporting that this year’s September minimum was 1.28 million square kilometres higher than the 2012 low point of 3.39 million square kilometres.
