Clip of the day: 🤨
Primary Day
Voters head to the polls in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Idaho, Kentucky, and Oregon today. The main card event is the GOP Senate primary in Pennsylvania to replace retiring Senator Pat Toomey. What was thought to be a two-way race between Dave McCormick and Dr. Mehmet Oz is now a three-way sprint with Kathy Barnette surging in recent weeks. The Trump-backed Oz is barely ahead according to the RealClearPolitics average. If no candidate breaks 30% a runoff will occur.
Net Negative
The Democratic Party has the highest net negative rating seen in 30 years according to an NBC poll. 50% of those surveyed had negative feelings about the Democratic Party while only 31% had positive feelings. The Democrat’s net negative rating of -19% is lower than the Republican’s rating of -11% or Trump’s rating of -16%. Interesting stat: Ron DeSantis has a +2% rating.
Elon Needs Some Proof
Elon Musk’s offer to acquire Twitter is officially on hold after the company refused to provide proof that spam accounts comprise less than 5% of its total userbase. Musk tweeted at 3:32 AM this morning that the deal cannot move forward until Twitter’s CEO provides sufficient proof of the spam account figures. Musk added that renegotiating his acquisition price is “not out of the question.”
Ukraine Ends Steel Plant Standoff
250 Ukrainian fighters trapped for weeks in the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol have been evacuated through a Russian-controlled humanitarian corridor. It is unclear if those soldiers are now considered prisoners of war. This leaves Mariupol largely under Russian control.
Shanghai Lockdowns
How bad is the Shanghai lockdown? Not a single vehicle was sold in Shanghai last month. 26,311 vehicles were sold in the city of 25 million people in April of 2021. Full story at Bloomberg.
