Clip of the day:
Stacey Abrams Is Suddenly Rich
Stacey Abrams had a net worth of $109,000 before her first campaign for Georgia governor back in 2018. Now, Abrams is worth $3.17 million. In less than four years, Abrams has earned $6 million from speaking fees and book deals. Here’s more from AP News.
Black Lives Matter Cashes In
Speaking of rich, Black Lives Matter purchased a posh new house for a cool $6 million. The 6,500 square foot property purchased in October of 2020 has 12 bedrooms, 7 fireplaces, and parking for 20 cars. The estate is referred to internally as “Campus.” Here’s the most damning quote from NY Magazine.
The transaction has not been previously reported, and Black Lives Matter’s leadership had hoped to keep the house’s existence a secret. Documents, emails, and other communications I’ve seen about the luxury property’s purchase and day-to-day operation suggest that it has been handled in ways that blur, or cross, boundaries between the charity and private companies owned by some of its leaders. It creates the impression that money donated to the cause of racial justice has been spent in ways that benefit the leaders of Black Lives Matter personally.
Ukraine Update
Zelenskyy told the United Nations Security Council that the Russian war crimes committed in Bucha against Ukrainian citizens are only the beginning. Yesterday, a mass grave with over 100 civilian bodies was found in a suburb outside of Kyiv. In total, over 300 civilians were tortured and killed in Bucha alone. Zelenskyy said Russian troops killed entire families and tried to burn the bodies to hide the evidence. In the same speech, Zelenskyy said the Security Council should dissolve itself if they refuse to act on Ukraine. This is from The Wall Street Journal:
“Probably, now the occupiers will try to hide the traces of their crimes,” Mr. Zelensky said. “They didn’t do this in Bucha when they retreated. But in another area it is possible.”
“Now, there is information that in Borodyanka and some other liberated Ukrainian towns, the number of casualties may be even higher,” he said.
