Strike
For the first time in its 88-year history, the United Auto Workers initiated targeted strikes against all three major automakers at 11:59 PM EST last night.
Where things stand: The UAW is demanding a 36% pay increase for all workers, enhanced retiree healthcare plans, and pension plans for new workers. Both sides remain far apart as GM, Ford, and Stellantis have offered counter-proposals topping out at a 20% pay raise with few concessions on additional benefits.
Noteworthy: Analysts tell the Wall Street Journal that the full demands by the UAW would amount to a 100% payroll increase for the automakers.
Why targeted: UAW President Shawn Fain is employing a new strike strategy that targets assembly factories for some of the big three’s most profitable vehicles. Fain has described the move as a way to sow discord at the companies while giving his negotiators the most leverage. The union is required to pay members on strike $500 per week until the strike ends.
WATCH: The Ford CEO says the UAW wants workers to make $300,000/year while working 4 days per week.

Biden’s Worst Poll Yet?
At first glance, the Reuters/Ipsos poll released this morning appears to reiterate what we already knew: Joe Biden is deeply unpopular but is tied with President Trump in a hypothetical rematch. But the data is much worse.
Details: While both men are tied at 39% apiece in national averages with 1 in 5 voters remaining undecided, swing state voters give Trump the advantage. Donald Trump beats Joe Biden by a six-point margin in the seven crucial swing states that will ultimately decide the election.
Problems: While all signs point to Biden running for reelection, Democrat Rep. Jamie Raskin refused to tell Jake Tapper last night - on four separate occasions - that Kamala Harris is Biden’s best choice for running mate. Just the day before, Nancy Pelosi dodged the same question twice from Anderson Cooper on CNN.
CNN: Following Joe Biden’s false claim that he rushed to the World Trade Center after 9/11, CNN did an entire segment chronicling false statements Joe Biden has repeatedly made. (h/t to Collin Rugg on Twitter)

Bad to worse: Just two days after Republicans opened a formal impeachment inquiry, Joe Biden’s son has been indicted on three felony gun charges relating to false statements made during the purchase of a firearm.
