Georgia Shifts
The Cook Political Report (paywall) has shifted Georgia’s race for governor from “toss-up” to “lean Republican.” The move comes after a bipartisan poll was conducted in early July showing Kemp leading Abrams by 7 points. The same poll has Warnock ahead of Walker by 3 points. More takeaways:
Biden approval/disaproval: 37% - 61%
Trump approval/disaproval: 50% - 49%
Congressional map: Republicans hold a 4-point advantage in the 56 most highly contested battleground House districts.
Democrats lost ground with Hispanics and Asian Americans.
Here is an excerpt from Amy Walters at Cook:
A bipartisan survey for the AARP conducted July 5-11 by the GOP firm Fabrizio, Lee & Associates (which was Trump’s 2020 pollster) and Democratic firm Impact Research (which polled for Biden) showed Kemp leading Abrams by 7 points, 52 percent to 45 percent. Notably, those numbers came as in the true Toss Up Senate race, Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock led Republican former football great Herschel Walker, 50 percent to 47 percent. That’s proof, at least for now, that there is a crossover bloc of Kemp/Warnock voters, unicorns that the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Greg Bluestein dove into (though it also says perhaps more about Walker’s weaknesses as a candidate). The polling also shows no lingering antipathy post-primary, with both 95 percent of Republicans and Democrats saying they’d back their party’s nominee. Notably, though, Kemp is winning independent voters by a 14-point margin.
The New York Attack
The Republican gubernatorial candidate in New York was attacked on a campaign stop yesterday. The 43-year-old assailant attacked Congressman Zeldin with a knife and was ultimately arrested and charged with attempted assault in the second degree. Zeldin accurately predicted the attacker would be “instantly released under New York law.” Go deeper with The New York Post.
Inside the Woke Meltdown at One Domestic Violence Organization
This is from The Washington Free Beacon:
It was just two months after the death of George Floyd that one of the largest domestic violence nonprofits in the United States, Women Against Abuse, brought in several diversity consultants to conduct a racial-equity audit. The goal of the audit, Women Against Abuse told staffers, was to become "a fully inclusive, multicultural, and antiracist institution."
By November 2020, the organization, which is ostensibly devoted to "serving all survivors," was offering to pay "BIPOC" employees more than their white counterparts and discouraging black abuse victims from calling the police. Its employees were also at war with each other, bickering over whether Jews are a persecuted minority group and whether there is such a thing as a non-racist white person.
