Leftist Lori Loses Largely

Chicago’s Lori Lightfoot blamed her 83-point loss (you read that correctly) on racism. After last night’s loss, Lightfoot claimed “I am a black woman — let’s not forget. Certain folks, frankly, don’t support us in leadership roles.”

Backstory: Following her election on an anti-police platform, crime surged in Chicago under Lightfoot’s tenure. Only after homicides skyrocketed did Lightfoot change her stance on police and crime. Since 2021, 45,000 residents have fled Chicago as homicide rates continue to rise.

DeSantis Uses The Kemp Playbook

Ron DeSantis continues to use the Brian Kemp playbook that proved so effective against Donald Trump in Georgia: praise and ignore. Here’s the quote from DeSantis when pressed on Trump:

He can say what he wants about me. I will also give him credit for the things that he did that were positive. I’m appreciative of a lot of things he did. It doesn’t mean I agree with everything he’s doing lately.

FBI Confirms: COVID Likely A Lab Leak

FBI Director Christopher Wray told Fox News yesterday that the agency agrees with the Department of Energy’s assessment that COVID is likely a result of a lab leak in Wuhan, China. However, Wray added the following context:

I will just make the observation that the Chinese government, it seems to me, has been doing its best to try to thwart and obfuscate the work here, the work that we're doing, the work that our U.S. government and close foreign partners are doing. And that's unfortunate for everybody.

Colleges Turning Out Conservatives?

A Princeton student took to the pages of The New York Times (paywall) to claim that progressive college campus culture is alienating students and pushing them to the right. Here’s the paragraph that matters:

Some might think that this pervasive progressivism would encourage conservative students to change their views. But in fact it has the opposite effect. Graduates of schools like Loyola University Chicago, George Washington University and Mount Holyoke have described how the rampant leftism on their campuses pushed them to the right. A 2017 article in The Washington Examiner quotes a Furman University graduate saying that “the aggressive leftist culture on campus made me a more radical conservative because I only had two options: abandon my beliefs and conform, or fight back.” She chose to fight back.

Railway Safety Act

A group of bipartisan Senators are introducing legislation aimed at preventing train derailments like the recent disaster in East Palestine. Josh Hawley, Marco Rubio, J.D. Vance, and others have crafted the Railway Safety Act of 2023 that would increase requirements for rail companies transporting hazardous materials.
