DeSantis 2024

Ron DeSantis is set to announce his 2024 presidential candidacy in a Twitter Spaces event with Elon Musk tonight at 6 PM followed by an interview with Trey Gowdy at Fox News.

Why this matters: The news comes as a DeSantis Super PAC reveals it has a $200 million operating budget for the daunting task of taking down Donald Trump. Never Back Down plans on hiring an army of 2,600 field organizers by Labor Day that will contact every possible DeSantis voter in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada at least four times.

These are huge numbers: The 2,600 field organizers will roughly double the enormous army of Bernie Sanders’ staffers in 2020. Never Back Down’s starting cash on hand equals the entire amount spent by Jeb Bush’s historically cash-flush Super PAC in 2016.

Twitter: It can’t be ignored that conservatives are increasingly comfortable betting on Twitter. The Daily Wire is now streaming all of their shows on Twitter, Tucker Carlson announced his new show will be on the platform, and now Ron DeSantis is launching his presidential bid on Twitter.

LOL: Vanity Fair had a complete meltdown over the DeSantis announcement.

CNN Poll: Americans Back McCarthy

A surprising CNN poll reveals a majority of Americans only want the debt ceiling raised if spending cuts are made. 60% of Americans take the McCarthy position that spending cuts must happen for the debt ceiling to be raised while 24% say it should happen no matter what.

Biden: The most shocking part of the CNN poll was Biden’s low approval rating on several key issues. Just 35% of Americans approve of how Biden is handling the federal budget, 34% approve of his management of the economy, and a paltry 30% approve of Biden’s immigration plan. The numbers were so bad that CNN analysts said Biden’s various approval ratings were lower than any president since Jimmy Carter.

McCarthy vs Biden: McCarthy says the White House has a “lack of urgency” and maintains he will not bring a bill to the House floor “that doesn’t spend less than we spent this year.”

Trump Indictment?

Attorneys for Donald Trump sent an unusual letter requesting an urgent meeting with Attorney General Merrick Garland as speculation mounts that a Trump indictment may be in the works.

Why this matters: The one-page letter suggests an indictment related to Trump’s handling of classified documents after leaving office could happen in as little as a few weeks.

Slamming Bud Light

An Alabama Anheuser-Busch wholesale beer distributor bought radio spots to release an ad slamming… Bud Light. The independent distributor is offering substantial rebates that essentially amount to free beer.

What they said: “We at Bama Budweiser, an independent wholesaler, employ around 100 people who live here, work here, and our children go to school here. We do not, and as I said before, did not support this issue involving Dylan Mulvaney.”

More: “We too at Bama Budweiser are upset about it and have made our feelings known to the top leadership at Anheuser-Busch.”
