Biden’s Gun Speech

In an emotional prime-time address from the White House, Joe Biden implored moderate Republicans to join Democrats and pass gun control measures following the devastating shooting in Uvalde, Texas. “Enough is enough” was the repeated rallying cry from Biden despite few specifics given. Kevin Williamson had a great response at National Review:

As expected, not one word about the actual problem; i.e. the habitual criminals who carry out the overwhelming majority of shootings and murders in our country. Not one word about the fact that we keep letting violent criminals walk free after five, six, seven arrests, after multiple convictions, and don’t get serious about dealing with them until they murder somebody — and, sometimes, not even then: You’d be surprised to know how many crimes are committed by people out on bail awaiting trial on capital murder charges.

Civil War: New York Democrats

Democrats in New York have a cataclysmic problem on their hands. Redistricting has thrown congressional districts into a blender and the current mood is “every man person for himself themself.”

The problem stems from New York losing a congressional seat following the 2020 census that forced the state’s Court of Appeals to draw completely new congressional lines. The worst part: New York was 89 people away from not losing any congressional seats. Go read the full story from New York Magazine.

OPEC+

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries has agreed to increase oil production. OPEC+ ostensibly operates as a cartel and manipulates the price of oil by throttling the supply from member countries. The agreed-upon production increase was 648,000 barrels per day in July and August. Here’s more from NBC.
