McCarthy: Move the F-ing Motion.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy did not hold back in a closed-door session this morning telling fellow Republicans they would lose during a government shutdown.
Details: As the prospect of a government shutdown has become increasingly likely, McCarthy has attempted to placate the hardliners by announcing impeachment proceedings against President Biden in an attempt to quell shutdown rumors. In light of Matt Gaetz and others threatening McCarthy with motions to vacate the chair, McCarthy responded this morning by saying “File the fucking motion.”
DeSantis: In a late-night call with Chip Roy, Thomas Massie, and others, Ron DeSantis urged them to hold the line on a government shutdown saying, “I got your back. Keep fighting.”
Must Read: The Democrats' Oliver Anthony Problem
If you don’t read anything else, go read Ruy Teixeira’s piece (who is a Democrat) at The Liberal Patriot. Here’s an expert:
The fact that Democrats responded with visceral dislike to a song that expressed the complicated populist views of an actual working-class person shows how unwelcoming the party has become to actual working-class people, as opposed to mythological proletarians who combine hatred of (Republican) corporations with reverence for “Bidenomics” and careful usage of all the approved intersectional language.

The Worried White House
Biden aides tell CNN they are increasingly worried about a potential rematch between President Biden and Donald Trump in light of multiple polls that show the two men tied in hypothetical matchups. Here’s the quote that matters:
Several Biden aides themselves tell CNN that looking at Trump’s wide lead in every primary poll – and no clear leader in a hypothetical Biden-Trump rematch – leaves them with a particular kind of existential stress. The former president may seem like the easier Republican candidate to beat, as a known quantity who is toxic to many voters, but they’re terrified that if he is the nominee, any fumbles by the campaign or the president himself would enable the return of a candidate they see as a singular threat to American democracy.
Strike?
The United Auto Workers is prepared to announce a partial strike against General Motors Co., Ford Motor Co., and Stellantis as both sides remain far apart on a labor contract that expires at midnight tonight. Assuming no deal is reached, the UAW will announce targeted strikes at key plants aimed at maximally disrupting day-to-day production processes starting tomorrow morning.
What gives: The United Auto Workers is demanding a 36% pay increase for workers along with pension plans for newly hired employees and healthcare packages for retirees.
Related: As the Hollywood writers’ strike continues to paralyze all forms of scripted programming, Bill Maher announced his show is coming back without the writers. Here’s part of his quote:
I’ll say it upfront to the audience: the show I will be doing without my writers will not be as good as our normal show, full stop. But the heart of the show is an off-the-cuff panel discussion that aims to cut through the bullshit and predictable partisanship, and that will continue. The show will not disappoint.
