Clip of the day:
Biden repeats false claim that US has lower inflation than rest of world
This is from Fox Business:
"America is better positioned to lead the world than we ever have been. We have the strongest economy in the world; our inflation rates are lower than other nations in the world," Biden said. "The one thing that has been destabilizing is the outrageous behavior of the Supreme Court of the United States."
In reality, the U.S. inflation rate of 8.3% was among the highest in the developed world in April and May, far out-pacing Japan, France, Germany, the U.K., Italy and Canada.
Hysteria on the Left
Doom and gloom pieces abound as progressive journalists lament the multiple SCOTUS decisions hampering the progressive agenda over the past two weeks. Here’s one of my favorites. To make matters worse for Democrats, The Atlantic has a deeply critical piece of Joe Biden that highlights the lack of confidence Democrats have in him. Go read it here. Here’s an excerpt:
An array of frustrated Democrats this week openly complained that Biden and other administration officials had failed, in their initial reactions to the ruling, to reflect the urgency and anguish of abortion-rights supporters. Although Biden quickly denounced the decision last week, he has avoided any broader condemnation of the Court’s direction or legitimacy and dismissed proposals for changing its structure. Biden’s aides have stressed the limits of what the executive branch can do to mitigate the impact of the ruling.
A Soft Landing is Becoming a Distant Dream
This is from The Financial Times:
The Bank for International Settlements — the central bank for central banks — is clear that policymakers must be resolute. “Transitioning back from a high-inflation regime can be very costly once it becomes entrenched. All this puts a premium on a timely and firm response,” the BIS said in an examination of inflation pressures released as part of its annual report.
“Central banks fully understand that the long-term benefits far outweigh any short-term costs,” it added. “And that credibility is too precious an asset to be put at risk.”
If you are still hoping that central bankers will rescue your portfolio after a dreadful first half of the year for most investors, that statement should tell you that now is the time to check for your nearest exit from the aircraft. Please remember it could be behind you.
The Fight Over Abortion Is Coming to Sports
Progressive athletes are moving away from blacklisting conservative states or cities as they did with the MLB All-Star game in Atlanta and NCAA games in North Carolina. Instead, they want to incorporate their political views into sports while in those states. Yikes. This is from The Wall Street Journal:
Blocking events “is a tactic, but I think that maybe even better would be playing in the games and wearing shirts on the sidelines that say, like, ‘pro-abortion’ or ‘abortion rights are human rights,’” she said. Other ideas, she said, included using media availability around games to only talk about the issue.
