Tariff

Donald Trump is setting the stage to upend North American trade with overnight tariffs announced on Truth Social.

Details: A 25% tariff would be imposed on all goods coming from Mexico and Canada in response to each country’s role in perpetrating illegal immigration and facilitating fentanyl distribution into the United States. An additional 10% tariff would be added to all Chinese imports for their refusal to monitor the chemicals used in fentanyl production.

Breaking: Less than 12 hours after the announcement, Mexican President Sheinbaum claimed that Mexico is stopping the migrant caravans heading to the US border and is working to meet with US officials as soon as possible.

Walmart Ditches DEI

The world’s largest retailer is drastically cutting its DEI program following an organized conservative backlash just days before Black Friday.

Details: Anti-DEI activist Robby Starbuck leveraged his previous success at Tractor Supply, Ford, and Harley Davidson to force Walmart into negotiating down its DEI campaigns over the threat of a conservative boycott during the pivotal holiday shopping season.

Result: Walmart executives confirmed they plan to cut DEI training for staff, end its affiliation with the Human Rights Campaign’s gay-friendliness annual index, and assess involvement in gay and other sexually-themed events.

Target: The news comes as Walmart has been incrementally siphoning off a growing number of Target customers as high-end shoppers continue to look for deals. 75% of Walmart's new market share in the last quarter came from households earning more than $100,000 a year. As the WSJ said, Target is sliding from “cheap chic to dull chore.”
