SBF Goes To Jail
In the least shocking news of the day, Sam Bankman-Fried was arrested early Tuesday morning by Bahamian authorities at the behest of the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York on eight counts of financial fraud. The news came as a surprise to Maxine Waters and the House Financial Services Committee who were scheduled to interview SBF this morning.
Cozy: Maxine Waters refused to subpoena Democrat megadonor Sam Bankman-Fried in the early days of the FTX scandal after blowing him a kiss earlier this year at a congressional hearing:
Prices Go Boom
The average grocery bill jumped 12% while restaurant prices increased by 8.5% compared to a year ago. Vegetables saw the most volatile price increase jumping 38% this month alone and over 80% in the past year. A large portion of US vegetables come from the Arizona region which saw a drawdown in water allocation from the dwindling Colorado River.
Here are the other major price hikes from CNN:
Flour prices jumped 24.9%, bread went up 15.7%, milk was 14.7% more expensive and coffee prices rose 14.6%. Chicken was up 12% and fruits and vegetables spiked 9.7%.
Ronna McDaniel Glides To Victory
Ronna McDaniel appears well on her way to winning a fourth consecutive term as RNC chair after presiding over every single Republican loss since 2018.
My take: Axios reached out for a comment on the story and I provided the following: The Republican Governors Association, the National Republican Senatorial Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee matter way more than the RNC. There's no reason to spend capital trying to boot [McDaniel] out when it's not really a relevant factor at this point."
Trump 2024
Republican support for Trump’s 2024 campaign has cratered according to new data from USA Today. The survey of Republican and Republican-leaning voters finds the base of the party wants Trump’s policies without Trump himself by a 2-1 margin.
My take: I suggested on Twitter this would happen after the midterm election and was flooded with objections by the loudest voices in the NeverTrump and OnlyTrump camps. I see this playing out as NeverTrump and OnlyTrump will be the only ones talking about him while the rest of us move on.
