Biden Detains Families?
After castigating the Trump administration for detaining families who traveled illegally to the U.S., Joe Biden may reimplement the practice.
Why now: The Biden administration has until now placed ankle monitors or traceable cell phones on families who crossed the border illegally and released them into the U.S. after setting a court date. Unsurprisingly, this is not going well.
The problem: The Biden administration has a litany of logistical problems in reimplementing the family detention practice used by Trump, Obama, and Bush. Thanks to the flood of families heading north, Immigration and Customs Enforcement has no facility in place to hold them and is deeply over budget this year.
Lithium in Iran
The world’s second-largest lithium reserve was allegedly found in western Iran with a deposit that exceeds 8.5 million tons of lithium.
Why this matters: The demand for lithium has soared over the past decade as electric vehicle production has skyrocketed. The minable reserve would serve as a financial lifeline for a country whose economy has taken the brunt of global sanctions. Additionally, the United States is currently fighting multiple proxy wars against the Iranian regime in Yemen, Ukraine, and elsewhere. A booming Iranian economy from lithium reserves could pose a challenge to the United States.
Dead Americans in Mexico
Two of the four Americans abducted in Mexico were killed leaving one injured and another unharmed.
What happened: Latavia McGee was traveling to Mexico for a tummy tuck and was accompanied by three friends. The group was abducted on Friday in the border town of Matamoros by unknown armed assailants.
The FBI Targeted Pro-Life Centers
In a shocking release of whistleblower testimony, FBI Special Agent Garret O’Boyle claimed that the FBI began targeting pro-life pregnancy centers after the Dobbs decision last summer. Describing the FBI leadership’s directives to update threat tags that began targeting “pro-life adherence,” O’Boyle said, “When this threat tag came out, it was like, why are you focusing on pro-life people? … It’s pro-choice people who are the ones protesting or otherwise threatening violence…”
