Debt Talk
Joe Biden is scheduled to meet again with Kevin McCarthy later today on the debt ceiling as talks fell apart between the two sides late last week. Politico reports Biden has “grown wary of the state of negotiations” ahead of a June 1st funding deadline that has shown the Republican House majority shockingly united.
Backstory: The White House bet that House Republicans would be unable to pass a budget following 15 contentious votes for House speaker that left Kevin McCarthy with a negligible House majority. After McCarthy successfully passed a House spending bill, Biden and his team were caught off guard and forced to change their negotiating tactics. Some progressive Democrats wanted Biden to unilaterally raise the debt ceiling through the 14th Amendment which even Ezra Klein at The New York Times said wouldn’t work.

More Biden problems: As questions loom over Biden’s handling of the debt ceiling, a new poll from the AP says Americans are losing faith in Biden's economic policies. Just 33% of Americans say Biden is handling the economy well while less than 1 in 4 say national economic conditions are in good shape.

Media Protects Fetterman
Last week, Democratic Senator John Fetterman fumbled his way through a hearing with a bank executive and showed up to a Senate press conference in gym shorts and a hoodie. Recovering from a stroke and a six-week bout with depression at Walker Reed, AP writers claim Fetterman is "turning heads" and "redefining fashion in the stuffy Senate." Fetterman avoids the dress code enforced on the Senate floor by shouting his vote from the doorway.
The AP profile on the noticeably impaired Senator not once questioned his mental ability to do the job.
