Debt Limit
According to multiple members of both parties in the House and the Senate, progress has been made in negotiations between the White House and Republicans over raising the debt ceiling. Jaime Dupree points out that an additional sign of progress is grumblings from progressive Democrats and conservative Republicans over specifics of the deal, meaning a compromise is likely close. Both sides have until June 1st to reach a deal.
While Biden is in Japan, he has appointed three members of his team to negotiate on his behalf with McCarthy. None of them are named Kamala Harris who has been sidelined yet again from another major policy discussion. With major ongoing policy issues happening in DC and abroad, the Vice President is touring the Baby2Baby Facility in LA today. Ouch.
Progressive Democrats remain panicked over the prospects of an agreement that adds work requirements for SNAP and Medicaid. A group of 11 progressive Democrats led by Bernie Sanders sent Joe Biden a letter yesterday imploring him to unilaterally raise the debt ceiling under the 14th Amendment.

Not A Terrorist?
The US military is walking back claims it killed a senior al-Qaeda mastermind in northern Syria. It appears the man was an innocent father of 10 who was tending to his sheep when he was killed by a US-launched Hellfire missile attack on May 3. The 56-year-old was described as a kind, hard-working man whose “whole life was spent poor.” Go deeper with The Washington Post (paywall)
Why this matters: This is likely another black eye on the US military following reports yesterday that the infamous Massachusetts guardsman who leaked US secrets to a discord server had been previously caught stealing top-secret information and was allowed to retain his security clearance.
Relatedly, it appears the Pentagon made a $3 billion accounting error???
Attacking Casey DeSantis
Politico has a deranged piece attacking Casey DeSantis for being too involved in her husband’s campaign. The shockingly tone-deaf piece could only be described as a hit job on a politician’s wife who is widely viewed as one of his strongest assets and is recovering from breast cancer.
The best part: Politico compared Casey DeSantis to Lady Macbeth after claiming Macbeth comparisons were sexist less than a year ago.
More DeSantis attacks: Most media outlets are falsely reporting that Disney is pulling a one billion dollar development from Florida over its continued war with Ron DeSantis.
In short, the project was actually pulled because it was nearly $500 million over budget and pivotal Disney staff refused to move to Florida from Southern California. Regardless, The New York Times reported this as the fault of Ron DeSantis. For more in-depth coverage, read my morning piece here.

Market snapshot:
It will be interesting to watch how the media and left act toward Gov. DeSantis. If they act in a similar manner as they did/do to Donald Trump then their behavior suggests their actions were not so much directed to Donald Trump, himself, but to the policies and approach he represented...which are similar to those espoused by Gov. DeSantis.
They have, though, in Gov. DeSantis, someone with a sterling personal life, with experience in governing and one skilled in handling their vitriol without trying to become one of them in the process.
My hope is that he has the personal strength and fortitude to see this through, that he earns the support of most Americans and enters the White House come January 20, 2025, as our new President.
The media is just despicable.
Austin needs to be fired along with the heads of every branch of the service and Milley for pure incompetence.
