Gallup is the most respected polling organization in America. They've been doing it longer than everyone else. You may recall that several years ago, Gallup was a disaster. I believe it was the 2012 presidential election. The Gallup poll was an unmitigated disaster. In exercising a level of humility that no other pollster exercises, the Gallup organization said, "We're done with presidential polling, at least for now." They decided to go sit on the sidelines and try to relearn presidential polling.
I’m told behind the scenes they continued to poll and not make it public because they wanted to see if they could get their polling results to come close to the actual results over the last couple of presidential cycles. I suspect they'll get back into it, but they've continued to churn out opinion polling on topical items. No one disputes the veracity of their ability to poll on these things. They've been doing it for years, and it does track with what other people show. What they are finding is remarkable.
