I used to like Tucker a while back. Now I find that he has allowed his mind to be infiltrated with some form of virus and he has gone off the proverbial deep-end. Instead of insightful, he's become inciting.
Should be using the tariff revenue to bring down the debt. That's a responsible move. Stimulus checks are poor form (not that I'm sneezing at $2000), and not in the best interest of the country.
Tariff revenue hit a record $195 billion in FY2025 - a significant sum, despite the Solicitor General’s attempt to downplay it before the Court by insisting tariffs "aren’t taxes." Trump once touted tariffs as a way to reduce the national debt; now he wants to send out $2,000 "rebate" checks instead. This is very bad economic policy. Only Trump himself and Sen Josh Hawley seem to be promoting the idea. Treasury Sec Bessent, to his great credit, opposes it. He wants to pay down the debt.
Greg Brown- I do not know about you, but I am thinking that Trump did not pay attention to the political history of FDR's economic policies prolonging the Great Depression when in school.
I agree that these two proposals do NOT make sense, but I have to wonder what Trump is thinking. Is he simply mistaken or is he playing some kind of game? Whatever is actually going on, it's way too early to get exercised over it. He's just "thinking out loud". He doesn't yet have a plan.
James Bardis- I think that Trump is trying to settle down the voter base - with a payoff since cost for things have not gone down as much as they actual have. I am surprised that Trump after returning to the Presidency, has not mentioned at all, that his administration is trying to "startup" the construction of the Keystone Pipeline which was effective stopped in its tracks by Biden. News about that would at the very least should send the future prices of a barrel oil to drop.
We should not receive any rebate from the Government, ever!!!!! We should strive to limit the amount of payroll taxes and receive very little back from the IRS. We should strive for our independence which would include responsible personal finances
COVID created many issues one of which is personal fiscal responsibility.
I think you meant to type "fiscal irresponsibility". when in high school- 30 years ago, I took a course where I learned to maintain check book register. parents/ guardians should vote for local school board members that requires a high school to get a passing grade in a simple personal financial course as a requirement to graduate from high school.
Trump certainly is a flawed person, no question in anyone's mind about that. However, he is lightyears better than Biden and Obama. I am very disappointed by this proposal. I'm not sure I'm strong enough to refuse the money and I wish it not to be offered. We are still suffering from the inflation the Biden administration giveaways caused, and I wish that to be brought under control before any further attempts are made to buy the votes. Really sad it has come to this.
I don’t want to discount the positive achievements of DJT but I’m done with him. I never voted for him, nor did I vote for his Democrat opponents. I have exercised my right to cast a write-in vote. I’ve always joked Mr. Trump is a Democrat plant so I loved your comment that he’s a 1950s Democrat. I’ve been saying the same for months now. The Republicans have become Democrats and the Democrats have become full-on Socialists.
Amen Erick! I really hate to see the President getting sidetracked with these old Democrat tactics. Is he losing focus or just listening to the wrong people. Seems "Instant gratification" is becoming his focus. Drop this menial stuff and focus on righting the ship! And I thought that the reason for the Nigerian genocide was "Climate Change?" I liked Tucker when he was on Fox, bc he would ask people tough questions and press of real answers. But boy has he lost his way or was that always with him and being let go by Fox just brought it out? He and Candice Owens are real mysteries to be, but both should be avoided like the plague.
Well said on all counts. Why reinvent mistakes from the 50’s and exchange them for a repeat in 2025. I personally moved on from Tucker Carlson when he was a host on Fox News. By the way, love your show. Your mentor would be so proud. ❤️
What the federal government needs to do is claw back every penny of Covid money spent on keeping schools closed and paying for scam businesses that never existed then go after every dollar that is being wasted in government programs Congress needs to discipline themselves with term limits and a balanced budget and pay off the national debt which stands at 111,000 plus per person in the US how can you pass on wealth if you keep burdening the future generations with this debt
Trump wants to buy votes. This is Leftist, Democrat play book 101.
Trump is a populist, not a Republican and not a conservative. I had a choice of him or Kamala. I frankly don't want J.D. Vance who is a 1950's Democrat but what's behind door #2? Andy Beshear, Josh Shapiro, Pete Buttigieg, Gavin Newsom?
"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage."

What ever form buying votes takes it is the corruption of a good idea.

Thank you, Erick, for saying out loud that people need to move on from Trucker. He’s become a conspiracy clickbait master. As for the R word, when you criticize the idea that’s fine, but how about then offering a better one? Low performing Democrats criticize Trump ad nauseam without offering alternative solutions. Don’t be a low performing Democrat, Erick.
I disagree with Erick on tariffs. I can’t understand why the US should be required to pay large tariffs to other countries but in turn the US should not charge countries to also pay us. I really struggle with that. Plus, tariffs built America to become the strongest country over 100 years ago. Why wouldn’t we want to go back to that plan that worked? Maybe I’m missing something…but can’t think of what?
Yes, you are missing a lot. First of all, tariffs are not a tax on other countries, but a tax on American importers. Second, Trump's across the board tariffs are in excess of any tariffs imposed by other countries on American goods. I could go on, but you could also just research the history of tariffs yourself.
Amen to the “move on from him” comment re Tucker Qutarlson

A big yes to Tucker-his zeal to be cutting edge has left him with a reputation that’s unreliable.
"Tying yourself to FDR, whose economic policies prolonged the Great Depression, is not a good move."
UNLESS you're a Dem masquerading as a Republican

I used to like tucker but lately he is more like art bell only less entertaining.
Tucker Carlson has turned into a First-Class, A-1, 100% bonafide CLOWN...
But a dangerous clown...
30 feet above the runway indeed :D

I wouldn't say that "bad cannot become good".

Wow, great point! Caught me flat-footed with that response, Joe.
(sorry!)
LOL
It was an excellent reminder to avoid absolutes

I think Erick has been very clear, and repeatedly, that the "better idea" is to drop the tariffs. Therefore no rebates would be necessary.
