Maybe Joe Biden needs to go back into his basement and hide like he did on the campaign trail. Grandpa Dementia just is not up for the job.
If you haven’t followed along on his European tour, first the President of the United States suggested American forces were going to go to Ukraine. The White House walked back what was a somewhat muddied statement.
Then the President was asked what the response would be if Russia used chemical weapons in Ukraine. His response? “The United States would respond in kind.” The White House had to walk back that the President did not actually mean that and we would not use chemical weapons.
Finally, in his major speech at the end of the week, President Biden declared Vladimir V. Putin, President of Russia, could not be allowed to remain in power. In an ad-libbed line not in his original text, Biden called for Russian regime change.
Members of the press first had an orgasmic response, comparing the line to Reagan’s “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall.”
But then the White House, unlike the Reagan White House, scrambled to walk it all back and clarify that Biden did not, in fact, mean to call for regime change. It was such a stunning walk back that Dana Bash of CNN started Sundays’ State of the Union show saying,
Hello. I’m Dana Bash in Washington where the state of our union is wondering if President Biden meant what he said. You’re watching a special two-hour edition of “State of the Union.” The president is back in Washington this morning after a major trip to Europe to meet with allies. He delivered his speech yesterday in Poland, harshly condemning Russian president Vladimir Putin and describing the war as a battle between, quote, democracy and autocracy. It’s this add-libed line at the end of his speech that’s raising eyebrows around the world.
It is raising eyebrows even in Washington.
Grandpa Dementia keeps winging it and keeps getting himself into trouble. We can kind of see why the White House staff keep him on such a short leash.
While you may want Putin removed from office, for the President of the United States to say as much on the world stage is not helpful. It removes a path from which Putin can get out of Ukraine and save face. It simply was not smart.
What is more amazing is watching so many who fumed over Trump’s off the cuff statements about bombing countries, etc. rush to Biden’s defense. They have the intellectual integrity of jello.
Biden undermined our own interests in his nonsensical response on chemical weapons and on regime change in Russia. He put his White House team in the position of having to tell people not to believe Joe Biden’s own statement — to take him seriously, but not literally.
The polling is only going to get worse.
As an aside, Biden has always been a man who wanted to plagiarize from history. He got caught more than once stealing other people’s lines. He had historians come in to the White House to tell him out to be Roosevelt or Johnson. After his regime change comment, people compared him to Kennedy and Reagan.
The man has been in Washington for 50 years, in the words of Barack Obama has f’ed up everything he touches, in the words of Bob Gates has been wrong about everything, and by his own words and deeds would prefer to steal others words and deeds to define himself than be his own cornpop-less man. Joe Biden lives in a parasitic relationship to men and events greater than himself and probably knows it.
The only thing worse is that the Vice President is even more inept.
This guy is going to get us in a war with Russia without even understanding what he's done. He's literally the most dangerous man in the world.
