Why Trump's Tariffs Won't Work
I am reliably told there is a growing consensus in the White House that the GOP-controlled House will be lost in 2026. This is a necessary viewpoint to understand because it explains why the Trump team is going all-in on everything from DOGE to deportations right now.
But the widely unpopular tariffs are turning the political calculation into a self-fulfilling prophecy. Peter Navarro, a longtime Democrat before flipping to the GOP, has convinced the President that non-reciprocal tariffs must be implemented now before the House is lost. The problem is that if Navarro is right, which I don’t think he is, the long-term payoff on lower prices will pale in comparison to the short-term increase in prices.
As working families are only now beginning to get over Biden’s inflation, Trump tariffs are poised to crush their budgets once again. Watch:

Trump also needs to realize that there are a lot of people who are living on fixed incomes and our paychecks are also not keeping up with inflation. I’m all for what Trump is doing but I think he needs to take a breath and listen to someone who can point out that we the older generation are still struggling. I will admit that patience is not one of my strong suits.
And tank the housing industry among others. No way a first time home buyer will be able to afford anything new!
