My estranged, Judeo-Christian-loathing brother's second ex-wife is a Wiccan-Pagan high priestess. I'm morally certain that my late mother is still rolling in her grave: A lovely multi-opal 14k gold ring she left to "Maddie" upon her passing had its stones removed to make the center piece for a Wiccan headdress.
Personally, for a Surgeon General, I could give a damn what her spiritual beliefs are. If confirmed, she would be there to keep me healthy, not save my soul.
For a position such as this, unless those beliefs would affect how she does her job (on which point I remain open to persuasion), this factor is every bit as flawed in terms of selection criteria as is Trump's general preference for loyalty over competence.
I’m a little surprised that you didn’t know about the esoteric section at Barnes and noble …. It’s more or less the only remaining bookstore of size…. But most of the larger chain stores had such a section… it was usually close to the religious case and the self-help case.
Now as regards to Means appointment, I get the disappointment with the lack of hue and cry over her, and I assume this is a her, appointment, as she might not adhere to one form of Christian orthodoxy. However, the constitution forbids application of religious tests for public office
Thank you Erik for putting your note and concern out there for not only the upgraded accounts but the free accounts too. I have personally been very concerned about this creep of the occult into our communities and accepted as "normal". As a pastor of a small congregation who is also trying to shine some light on the need for Christians to wake up and pay attention to the need for real engagement by believers in spiritual warfare. Your photo of the book case and highlight of the core beliefs behind someone being nominated should not only sober us up but call us to action. Specifically not just prayer but prayer and fasting with urgency.
I’m not sure Casey Means is a witch, but I do question her clinical and public-health credentials — and her leadership experience. There have to be dozens of better-qualified candidates, but she’s Trump’s pick because she fits the MAHA agenda and RFK Jr. wants her. End of story.
We had a pastor that taught us the importance of women as mothers the home was more important than the pulpit. He said that the reason Jesus chose men is because he knew that eventually they would be killed and women were to important. He also taught us that Halloween was originally a Christian Celebration .
Halloween has Christian roots, originating as the eve of All Hallows' Day, a time to remember saints and the faithful departed. While it has evolved into a secular celebration with various customs, its beginnings are linked to Christian observances.
"Christianity tells people to repent and promises them forgiveness. It therefore has nothing (as far as I know) to say to people who do not know they have done anything to repent of and who do not feel that they need any forgiveness. It is after you have realized that there is a real Moral Law, and a Power behind the law, and that you have broken that law and put yourself wrong with that Power—it is after all this, and not a moment sooner, that Christianity begins to talk."
Psalm 44:6 For not in my bow do I trust, nor can my sword save me
For someone who had basically memorized C.S. Lewis's works and used quotes in sermons when he, self admittedly, did not have enough time to prepare the sermon, I find the 3rd Way a little surprising.
Now to be sure, C.S. Lewis should be read to better understand Christianity, not as a "catechism".
Christianity is not political program. "Do as you would be done by" is meant for all men at all times, it cannot be politically applied to all societies at all times.
"People say, "The Church ought to give us a lead." That is true if they mean it in the right way, but false if they mean it in the wrong way. By the Church they ought to mean the whole body of practicing Christians. And when they say that the Church should give us a lead, they ought to mean that some Christians—those who happen to have the right talents—should be economists and statesmen, and that all economists and statesmen should be Christians, and that their whole efforts in politics and economics 2 should be directed to putting "Do as you would be done by" into action."
The fact that Barnes and Noble has so many of these books is a direct reflection of our current society and is very distressing. I agree with your assessment of President Trump and reluctantly voted for him because of his policies, not his lack of a moral compass. Through his policies and people like Charlie Kirk, we are ever-so-slowly headed back in the right (all puns intended) direction, but Christians have to stand up! I am a retired teacher, but I have been a substitute over the past three years. As a substitute, I don't have to worry about losing my job, so I have been standing up for Christianity subtly under the guise of what is right and wrong when I teach. I take my Bible Studies to school to work on when the students are doing classwork, and a few of them are asking me about what I'm studying. I'm also seeing more Christian t-shirts and sweatshirts at school than ever before, so there is hope for this generation. Fortunately, in my public school, I don't see a lot of leftist ideology being taught or discussed, but I'm sure it is there in some classrooms. In the 29 years that I taught, leftist ideology never had a place in my classroom, and it never will! I love your show and listen to it every day, though usually through the podcast the day after. I share your messages with my children, who are also teachers and strong conservatives. I can assure there are more conservative teachers in the public school systems in Georgia than you might think! I don't blame you one bit for sending your own kids to private schools. As a teacher, I was able to guide my own children to the right (another pun, can't help it, I'm an English teacher), teachers and they are doing the same for my grandchildren. Thank you for all you do with your broadcasts. I believe they are helping society. Prayers for your family, especially your wife's health. She is a testament that God does answer prayers.
Sincerely,
Beth Knight
P.S. I don't live in Georgia anymore, so I can't vote for PSC candidates, but I've told my children to vote for the incumbents and to spread the word.
Thanks for the nod to Tim Keller. I just finished his book, "Hope in Times of Fear." I'm late to reading him. Knew of him but was unacquainted with his message although many in my bubble seem to enjoy bashing him. It wasn't until after he died from his pancreatic cancer that I started paying more attention to him. All I can say is, "May his tribe increase."
The only politician I can recall that did NOT put their politics ahead of their faith was Mark Hatfield. Writing that will probably raise some hackles on this post.

How nice, eh?

Check out this video from this search, how do you know she's a witch monty python
Well, Trump always talks about witch hunts. Looks like he actually got one. Will this make him a warlock?
Truth is often not pretty, but always necessary. It’s what helps keep us in His will.
Erick, you said that Tim Keller pastored a NYC church that "stayed relatively small until planes flew into tall buildings one day."
What happened to his NYC church after 9/11?

If you are buying those books you are a Gnostic.
I am very appreciative of all this info you are giving out here. Let’s see what happens with it.

Mike Pence does a pretty good job.
Yes, he does. I guess I needed a whack on the side of my head. Pence just didn't come to my mind.
Indeed, he does. Wonder why the MAGAs did not support him?
