People Are Stupid. And a lot of them call themselves "Republicans" nowadays when they really belong to an insane cult of personality. "Our side" used to be better than this.

100% I’m not wearing that damn mask again. I paid my dues, got the shot twice, got sick from said shots both times, passed out after the second one and was admitted to the hospital. Done. Not wearing it!

I couldn't agree with you more. On all of it. I missed the Simone situation you evidently stepped in, but good for you for re-thinking it. I saw some weird interview a few days ago...and the interviewer DEFINITELY kept asking her/telling her about the pressure of being THE BEST EVER. It was sorta uncomfortable to watch, but Simone handled it with grace. I was surprised at what happened. However, It's more important that she is ok, IMO.

"Yes, yes, if you are vaccinated there is a chance — a small chance — you could get infected. But it is small and the odds are you’ll be fine."

This has always been about (lack of) risk tolerance. People still drive and, if "data" were actually examined when determining risk tolerance, the gov't would be shutting down roadways for fear of accidents and (gasp) deaths on the highway.

"We don't really know" is the correct answer. "Best guess" mitigations is the correct answer. Invoking "Science" does not support either position, but does shut down the conversation (it is the left's new, "...because, SHUT UP!" response). Invoking credibility where there is none is just the usual twaddle put forth by the unthinking.

Life is hard, wear a helmet :-)

“Shoot the protestors” - E Erickson - Jan 6, 2021 “I Told You So” post.

It unfortunately was a reality for Babbitt

There certainly are many facets to Simone's situation, but part of being an elite athlete is mental toughness. Being mentally tough is different that mental health or mental illness...it is different. Elite athletes begin to fade as they age. Their strength or speed leaves them, maybe injuries, maybe hand-eye coordination or they aren't as mentally tough anymore...heck they may just not care as much. Using mental health as an excuse is just lame.

Don't care a whit about the Olympics. But I hope for the best for Biles.

As for January 6th, with the VP, Speaker of the House and the President Pro Tem of the Senate in the building, why in the world was there not better (and more) security for folks in line for the presidecy?

I literally have zero interest in the Olympics. Never have. Anyone who riots is a jackass and deserves to suffer the consequences. Even if they may have been manipulated into doing it. They should be treated the same under the law as other rioters. You know, given bail until they go to trial? I have watched the video of the shooting of Babbitt several times. If people were breaking into my house, and climbing through the window, I would shoot. The person who shot her should face the same scrutiny as EVERY OTHER POLICE OFFICER IN THIS COUNTRY HAS FACED when they shoot an unarmed person. I do not defend the rioters and I do not expect them to be treated differently than other rioters. Those things are not mutually exclusive. Same with the officer shooting Babbitt.

I appreciate your objectivity on these issues. It does no one any good to blindly accept and follow one side or the other.

Do you mean to tell us that not everything is not exactly like we want it to be? And that everybody on "our side" isn't always Good! How could you trigger us by being such a traitor! That's systemically racist, transphobic, micro aggressive, voter suppressive, and all those other epithets. Quick, call in the media, protestors, lawyers, and academics to rescue us. Oh, wait, this is real life. Keep it up, Erick!

Claiming people should uncritically 'back the blue' is just as unnuanced as the cries to 'defund the police' when their conduct is questioned, whether that conduct is use of force during arrests or appearances in biased forums.

I thank God for you Erick. Speaking the truth no matter the cost..Wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction. My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Would love to have a beer with you someday my friend. You’re a great American. Keep blowing the horn….

It was like watching an Olympic ping-pong match following your back and forth arguments in this letter. Tis WHY I subscribe and will probably renew. Thank-you for telling it like it is.
