Two hundred forty-four years ago, a group of men met in Philadelphia under the cloud of war to pledge their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to a cause greater than themselves. These men, by adding their signatures to a “unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America,” became wanted men.
Preach, brother. The only problem is how do we preach to those not in the choir? How do we not hate them, or "hate them with perfect hatred (Psalm 139:21-22)?" How do we tell the snowflakes that hate can be a valid emotion? We are to hate our sin and selfishness -- and to love Jesus.
It just may be, Erick, that those Americans, now among us, "who would now rewrite our founding" do indeed have revolutionary intent--and on both sides.
Excellent article Erick. It deserves a secular Amen.
The problem with today's political environment is that there is no unity of purpose as in the days of our Nation's founding, where colonies with widely divergent interest shared a common goal of independence from England and freedom for its citizens. In our current time, our country is divided into two political camps that have diametrically opposite views just as slavery divided our nation in the days of the civil war . But slavery was not the only divisive issue of the Founding Fathers era. There were other bitter political battles with Jefferson and Adams not speaking to each other for about 2 decades and Arron Burr killing Alexander Hamilton in a duel.
In my opinion, the current political division didn't begin with Trump, but is coming to the forefront under him, just as the political division over slavery came to the forefront under Lincoln. For the first 60 years of the 1800's, there were bitter political battles over slavery, but the civil war was delayed by the 1820 Missouri Compromise and the Compromise of 1850. In our time, a sharp divide between the two parties began in the 1960's and 60 years later it is bubbling over. Lincoln (quoting Jesus) recognized that a house divided against itself could not stand, as no entity can go in two opposite directions without splitting apart. Sometimes the best solution is to agree to disagree, and go separate directions as Abraham and Lot did in Genesis 13:8-9. Even if that is not an ideal solution, perhaps it is much better than the guillotines of the French Revolution or the bloody loss of live in our Civil War.
Amen. Thank you. I pray that our children will wake up and realize just how wonderful our country is. It's not perfect , what country is. But it's the best darn country in the world. And I am so very proud to live here. Happy fourth of July
